Edge 1040 elapsed time resetting

Hi,

I recently purchased an Edge 1040 to replace my 530 and the Elapsed Time field doesn't appear to function in the same way. Instead of displaying total elapsed time since the start button is pressed, it seems to be periodically resetting and adding an increment to the display ( see attached pics ).

I thought this might be because I had auto stop pause enabled for activity profile but I tried disabling that and it didn't help. Is there another setting that might explain this?

Notice the "1" and "2" above the elapsed time in the lower left display field. I didn't notice when it switched on this ride - the first change ( from none to "1" ) might have been due to a stop but the second definitely wasn't.

The elapsed time for the activity in the Garmin Connect app appears to be correct.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • The "1" and "2" are hours. It's not resetting. once the minutes reach 59:59 it increases the small hour digit and starts the next 60 minutes.....

  • Ha! Thanks. Found another thread commenting on this behavior. Definitely prefer to keep the hours and it's disappointing that this can't be customized.

  • I got bit by this too during a bike marathon (yeah I know, shame on me for using a new device for the first long time on race day…)

Same as OP, I found this behavior so incredibly unintuitive that I never even considered the small number could be hours.

The way it looks suggests some kind of lap or training segment or something.

    Really wish Garmin changes this.

There is an alternative CIQ data field apparently that has a more sane behavior.
