840 has saved my ride, but won't update garmin connect even after restart of device and app

I can see my 16+ mile MTB ride on my Edge 840, however it errored out immediately after the ride saying that there was a network outage. The network is back online, however, after restarting my phone and 840, it hasn't updated to Garmin Connect. My phone is connected via bluetooth and both devices are on the same wifi network. The firmware is up to date as far as I can tell, version 5.0.0.21.

Thanks for helping me not be frustrated at not getting "strava" credit for my ride yesterday.

I had the same issue lately, and garmin support answered me "jsut delete the activity, there's nothing to investigate, the file is currupted. it just happens"
but the devs are better than support in garmin, so you should be able to find the fit file on the device and upload it manually to strava. just connect the device to a laptop and go to Garmin > Activities directory. In my case I wasn't able to upload the ride to garmin connect, but strava ate the file

it's also recommended to remove the file from the device to prevent problems in the future.

I ended up plugging my Garmin into my laptop via the Garmin express app and it uploaded my ride.
