Edge 840 restarted mid-ride

This was a problem with my 830. It seems to be a problem with my new 840 as well. Towards then end of a 45mi ride 840 turned off and restarted. It continued after reconnecting to all devices but any distance traveled was lost. I can provide the crash logs if that helps.

Mine has done this same thing the last two rides over a few hours (right around the 3 hour mark). Anyone have a solution? Unless I missed it all I see in the thread is that it has happened to a few other…

Does Garmin look at these forum and take ownership of problems such as these? This would be considered a P1 issue in most tech companies and they would be working around the clock to fix.

It's not fixed. I have 21.18 and it reset for 1-2 minutes yesterday during my ride as well. Rebooted with the red border, lost all stats during the 1-2 minute reset and had to manually start the activity again.

THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING. This Edge 840 is relatively new. If Garmin cannot fix this, I will be exploring other options and giving negative reviews of the Garmin Edge.

Same problem, did it on every SW version of 840 so far (and also a few too many times on 830 as well). Switched to Beta because of this, but no luck, happened during each beta version I had and happened again yesterday on the latest beta.. Around 2h into the ride, battery almost full, following a loaded route and suddenly restart. Sometimes it does 2 restarts during a longer ride... I swear this is the last Garmin cycling device I bought, every single Edge generation has lots of SW problems (I had all 8xx Edges so far). I can't believe Garmin has not learned how to write proper SW for these...

I'm running 21.18 on my 84 and both long rides of 4 plus hours it rebooted in the same distance, anyone have a recommendation to fix this.

Update your 840 to beta SW. There are lots of fixes including random restarts.

I’m also going to start broadcasting bad reviews. My son just got a 540 and it’s having the same reboot issues. So now an 840 and 540 are garbage. Garmin Connect Web - Garmin is going downhill… they NEED to fix this ASAP or Wahoo going to get a lot more business.

21.18 did NOT fix issue. BRAND NEW 540 had reboot two hours into a ride and lost 3 miles and 200 feet of climbing. C’mon Garmin… hire engineers that know what they’re doing. This has gone on long enough.

I can confirm this is not yet fixed in 21.18 firmware version.

Tried yesterday and after a couple of hours of ride, it crashes and restart itself loosing all data related to the path.
