Edge 840 restarted mid-ride

This was a problem with my 830. It seems to be a problem with my new 840 as well. Towards then end of a 45mi ride 840 turned off and restarted. It continued after reconnecting to all devices but any distance traveled was lost. I can provide the crash logs if that helps.

    today i had crash again, similar behaviour, after 3-3.5hs restarted. no climbpro, no segment, no route, no workout, no phone pairing, no ciq, so NOTHING, and it is unstable as f.... luckily i always have a backup recording with FR965, but now it is f.ng annoying..

    Mine has done this recently too - 2-3 times last week.  Hopefully something a recent update has broken, that can be fixed in the next update!

    Last times it happens quite often to my taste... fortunately after restart I'm able to continue activity and nothing is lost.

    you lose the data of the restart time, which is 1-2mins . the weird thing that the longest missing data is the speed (i use speed sensor, 50secs of data (pwr, gps, hr ) are missing completely , and other 1min of speed + distance datas are missing

    I really don't care about losing 1-2 min of about 5 hours activity

    it is you, but i (and others) do care. i train by plan, by power, doing intervals, daily 4-5hs / 25hs per week and i dont wanna fix/edit a fit file after a 4-5hs ride. the unit must be superstable, it is its primary task, other gimmicks are secondary. the fenix team can do it, the forerunner team also can do it, only the Edge developer team is creating 2 bugs when they solve 1....

    for sure it is me, i didn't say i'm talking for others, i just replied to your saying... my point is that i'm not losing anything before restart and i can continue activity, and 1-2 minutes has no importance for me, i'm not preparing myself for olympics

    Hi Luko79, You‘re absolutely right! The software quality is inadequate for a 400€ Garmin product.

    I have had this 3 times since getting my 840 in May.  It just happened again about 2.5 hours into my ride.  It reboots and starts in the ride I was on but with the Red border as if I am stopping the ride.  I am new to Garmin.  How does this go on so long with Garmin addressing or recognizing the issue.  Is this normal?

    OFC, it restarted with fw21.18 also... bravo.
