Edge 840 freezes after ejection from Garmin Express

Hey!

After I do anything in Garmin Express with my 840 and once done right-click on it to eject it, the devices freezes in the screen you see below. Only thing that helps is to force a restart.... Latest Garmin Express and Firmware (19.22) on device installed.

I tried a complete reset as well already, but the behavior stays the same. Anyone has the same issue or has an idea what I could try?

  • I can now confirm that this is due to maps. No need to uninstall maps, just reinstall. No freezing here now, at least not on my 840 on PC

  • Please let me know what region you are installing. For example, all of Europe or selected ones. We know the problem is in the maps, thx!

    I agree! It works until it's a map of all Europe. If I choose East Europe the EDGE840 freezes after disconnetcing it from the USB. For me the problem is solved :) 

  • Hello everyone, I purchased an Edge 1040 Bundle Europe two weeks ago and have never been able to use the navigation... There seems to be a recurring problem with the maps, and I tried all of the following : 

    - Update the sotfware,

    - Completely reset the device, 

    - De-install and re-install maps of Europe (All) through Garmin Express. 

    I also have the issue of the screen freezing after disconnecting from Garmin Express. 

    Note that I am doing thins on a 2014 MacBook Prob (High Sierra) in perfect shape. Could someone explain with easy words how I could manually solve this issue? Please assume that I don't know much about computers/programming/etc. 

    This has been so frustrating, I would be really grateful if someone could help me out here.

  • hi, I thought that by installing the maps again, the freeze defect would also be resolved when the device is disconnected from Garmin Express, but this is not the case. The defect persists and therefore I pass it on to the Garmin developers to fix it.

  • Just to add I have a 2 week old 840 (non-solar) purchased directly from Garmin UK. I have followed all the steps highlighted in this thread but the problem remains, however it is intermittent. Today the 1st time I synced with Garmin Express the device froze. I rebooted it, plugged it back into Garmin Express and once ejected it booted normally. I only have European Maps (all of Europe) installed.

  • Hi! Same issue here! Very annoying since if I leave It plugged It shows xy% for all the time It stands frozen. So when I force restart Is almost 0% cause display takes Energy. So a stupid issue for such advanced toy... 

  • This problem seems not to have been fixed in the firmware, because despite the firmware update, from time to time the Edge still crashes / freezes when disconnected from the Mac. I also did a test with reinstalling maps.
