Di2 shifter buttons

I am running firmware 9.09 and had my first ride yesterday with the 840. I have set the two hidden shifter buttons to swipe through the different pages. Before my ride everything was working as expected: the left button to swipe left, the right button to swipe right. during my ride the two buttons did not respond after a short or longer press. I tried several times. At home, after the ride was finished, both buttons worked as expected. Is this a bug or did I miss something ?

  • 840 and same issue here with 9.29 firmware. I think it's a lag in transmission of the information to the device from the d-fly.

  • Reducing the distance between the two units seems to help. I ended up moving my Dfly from the seatpost to the handlebars just behind the junction bar unit. Whilst still not 530 level responsive, it is now at least usable.

You can always try it out first by positioning the 840 close to your Dfly before taking the plunge and rewire.

  • Does not make sense to me. When the Di2 buttons are not working, I can enable them with a workaround as mentioned in https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-840-series/330626/di2-shifter-buttons/1644575#1644575
So after I use the workaround during the ride, I have no issues for the rest of the ride.

  • I'm encountering the same problem with my Di2 shifter buttons.  I came from an 830 where it worked great for years (2.5) and the 840 is constantly disconnecting and buttons are not registering.  I don't even trust the buttons anymore and am swiping.

WU111 is in the seatpost, exact same spot where it functioned perfectly for years with the 830.

Oddly, it worked great with the first 840 firmware update (I ordered at launch) and became worse after the 2nd firmware upgrade (first upgrade was at initial sync).

I'm reverting to the 830 until this is resolved, the UI was cleaner anyways and not trying to be a desktop UI.

  • I have found a solution for me on the Di2 shifter buttons.

I tested my 830 on the bars, it's flawless on shift and button press.  840 sucks badly in same position.  Put 840 on saddle, it was flawless.

WU111 is in the seatpost (SL7 with JCT top of seatpost, wish I had done in bar end...but such is life).  Took it out, inspected, turned it over and put it in frame and pushed it down with seatpost (There is room in mysetup between base of seatpost for WU111 before cage bosses), tried again.

840 works fine now, so I'm a happy camper...still annoyed I had to jack with it.

  • 'response' time has to be longer unfortunatelly, to handle double-clicks - Edge has to wait a bit (500ms?) for the second press (doesn't matter if the second press happens or not)
