Wifi not working

I realized that the WiFi connection does not properly work. 
Komoot connection and download of courses works only when my iPhone phone connected via Bluetooth is near. 
With the 830 Wi-Fi worked seamless. Just double checked both devices beside each other at the same place in the same network.

during setup procedure the Wi-Fi connection seems properly set up with no error message. I can see this also in the protocol of the router. But during later use I found out that neither Komoot, AccuWeather or any other online functionality of the edge 840 is working without the iPhone being connected via Bluetooth. Also the Wi-Fi icon in the top row of the screen never appears in bright white color  just in grey the first 20 seconds after switching the Garmin on  

I‘m really disappointed that on a 600€ device the simple Wi-Fi connection doesn’t work as it used to do a n the predecessor. 
I hope somebody from GARMIN reads this forum and takes care to fix this essential topic ASAP.

    Had an old 510 and got rid of it because it was so buggy. Beginning to regret my decision to come back to Garmin from wahoo.

  • I am not sure if this helps but I had the same issue  with my Edge 1040 on several occasion in the past and after updating to version 20.19. I have tried several different solutions and suggestion from this form. Some have worked and most have not! The latest one that worked 20.19 ……

    I connected my device to my laptop via Garmin Connect and redownloaded all of my maps and restarted the edge. Upon restart, WiFi worked!

     Hopes this helps! Garmin’s QA seems to nodding off during various updates!!!!!!

  • unfortunately your solution does not work on my edge 840.  are you still there? Can you please give us an update? could it be a hardware issue so that certain devices don't have this issue? 

  • As others report, deleting maps, resetting, and deleting/replacing the wifi connection did not work on my Garmin 840 with the latest non-beta firmware, 21.17. As others have said, Wifi sync worked flawlessly on my Garmin Edge 830 -- this issue only affects the newer devices and seems to be a problem for the 1040 as well One partial fix: I created a dedicated wifi SSID for the garmin on my router using the lower security level it permits, and on this network it now syncs some of the time, but I still see "Sync Failed" periodically, particularly when phone BT connection is on. It seems odd to me that the newer 840 device is incompatible with modern encrypted wifi networks whereas the older generation 830 device never had sync problems even using full WPA security, etc. This wifi sync issue has been reported on multiple threads and has been an open 840 topic for over a year, so it does not seem as though a resolution is imminent. Garmin, do you plan to release a patch to address this?

  • Exactly the same for me, though I haven't been lucky enough to get it working even once! So frustrating as you would assume something so basic and integral in all modern electronics would work when a new product is released!! And to now be a year after release and it's still not be woking is absurd!

    I completely understand that new products have teething problems but something so essential / basic as this to be broken for so long is simply not acceptable - especially as it's not exactly cutting edge technology and previous versions of the Edge worked fine!

    Garmin, can you please give us an update on whether you are actually working on this and when we can expect a resolution!!

  • i have an 840 i just bought.  i think its version 21.18    i can connect to wifi says "success" but then transferring follorwed by Sync failed, always.   seems like a bad wifi ship or bad code, but this isnt right.   should i contact garmin to have them warranty replace it though from what i hear, they all suffer that? or what do you suggest?

  • Same issue here, direct WiFi not possible in 21.18 on new device on my network, which has a hidden SSID. No problems on 530.

  • I've got an 840 as well and wi-fi sync doesn't work for me either. I already deleted the connection and readded it. Once readded, the 840 confirmed that it was added successfully, but tapping on "sync now"  led to a "Sync Failed". I'm on 23.09
