error installing map update

Hi,

my Edge 830 in on version 9.73

Multiple times I tried to install the "Routable Cycle Map of AU and NZ 2022.0"

Every time I get the error: "There was an error installing the update"

What I have done so far:

1. Check storage available on device. It has 10GB available; means storage is not the issue

1. remove device from Garmin Express and re-connect subsequently

2. re-install Garmin Express

3. delete all *.img, *.gma, *.unl except gmaptz.img from the Garmin directory of the device

Despite the effort, I still get the error message.

What can I do to install the map update? Is there a workaround or a fix?

Yes 2022.20. 530 doesn't have that search function.

Interesting, I've just had another look. The map that Garmin Express loads on to my device is called "Garmin GEOCODE Map Aus/NZ 2022.10". The old version I have from an old backup is called "Garmin CYCLE Map Aus/NZ 2021.10".

I wonder if it is something to do with it being the GEOCODE version and not the CYCLE

Yes, I initially got that file and it's the problem. I deleted i and installed a backup 2019 map. Another try with GE downloaded the correct updated map.

Wonderful, looks like Garmin have fixed the issue. I plugged my 830 in to GE and it ran the 2022.20 install process. Unplugged, turn on the device and it is working fine :) :) :)

I have this issue too. Brand new 530, and it can't download the latest maps. Pretty disappointed with Garmin

What is the error message you get? Have you tried this?

"There was an error installing the update" The device is on 9.73. I tried removing the files in the article. Did not seem to help. The device volume in has 13.2gb available so I would hope it was not a space issue. I literally took it out of the box, and connected it to the computer and let it update. Was going fine till it go to these maps and stopped. Brand new. Not a great experience for a new customer

Agree, this is not a good experience.

I tried deleting the files, enabling Trailforks and unlocking maps, re-installing Garmin Express. Nothing works.

This issue needs to be investigated by Garmin Support!
