Reboot during activity with loss of training status data

Hi all,

In the last two weeks, my Garmin Edge 830 did a reboot during my activity.

My biggest frustration with this issue, is that my training status not correct due to the reboot. In an activity of 150km and 126km, my device did a reboot, and based on the training & nutrician data, the device forgot all data from pre-reboot and only registered the data after the reboot. Any other data like heart rate, cadance, power, ... is not affacted. However what I could notice is that my altitude took a big upstep actually, and I was not climbing at all. See the picture below.

My device is according to Garmin Express on the latest FW (9.40) and I'm on European maps.

Anyone faces the same issue and has a fix for this?

  • Hi,

    Yes you can email me.

    I live in Belgium

It did not happen again for a while, but today and two weeks ago it did again.

  • the thread is dead, there won't be any help
max you get: "hard reset your device". and believe me, it won't help you

  • I also think it has to do with the navigation.
It did not happen for 11 months because I uploaded rides via Strava to my Garmin and that seems to worked. However last week in Switzerland I had issues with my gps navigation function the lasy 10km en today the reboot happened again with a navigated ride.

  • Hi.  I think it’s a bigger issue. I’ve  had this problem for years and I never use navigation.  I can’t believe Garmin is aware of this issue for so long and can’t fix it!.

  • It happened to me today, the 2nd time in recent weeks. Hydration and nutrition info from before the crash is lost, but everything else I'm interested in was still ok, other than a sudden 40m drop in elevation. GPS was on, but not following a course.

In Australia, yes you can email me.

  • I'm sure it has to do with the GPS.
Some weeks ago when riding in Switzerland, the GPS navigation was crashing, my device states all the time "Updating GPS firmware" and the crash happens when a drop or increase of elevation is noticeable on the graphs.

However now I'm not sure how Garmin can (or will) investigate this further...
