Edge 830 turning off and on mid ride?

Hi I’ve updated my edge 830 and it’s turning off and on mid ride. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Is there a fix?

  • Is anyone still having the problem? The firmware is the latest 9.75 and it switched off twice during my ride today which was very annoying. I’m not sure I want to do a factory reset although will if it fixes it. 

  • Yep. Reset does not work. I think Garmin has moved on…I wonder if the 840 does it too?

  • I have ridden very little lately - my unit has not stopped mid-ride, but it has as I was pausing at a coffee shop. So i believe the issue persists.

    I got an email from Garmin with a ton of questions, and instructions how to upload data for them to check.

    But honestly... - It's not my job to do that. FIX YOUR PRODUCT - i'm not your software engineer. Just fix it. Dont waste my time. I'll probably switch back to wahoo next time.

  • Mine happened after a cafe stop too. It started ok then stopped after about a mile. It happened again about 5 miles into the new ride. It’s very irritating. I might just go back to using my watch and phone if I need to navigate. 

  • I have the 830 and ride with a friend who has the 1030 they have both had this problem since new. I assume the whole range has the same problem. At this point I am assuming Garmin will never fix the problem. I have seen it suggested it is linked to using the Live Track feature which we both use but have never tested this theory out.

  • I gave up on the 830 because of this issue and bought an 840.  I figured if the 840 does it I can just send it back under warranty.  The 840 does not do it and I have the identical setup as before.  Really irritating that garmin can’t fix the 830 as it worked fine for years.

  • Keep us posted. I am really by it, and I am considering a switch to Wahoo. 

  • Happened to me yesterday. First the HR sensor stopped then the screen went blank. I restarted and was able to save and restart. Pretty poor service from Garmin who havent fixed in over a year.

    yes, you're kinda right, but if any data, files uploaded from your device would help Garmin to fix the problem, that is more than welcomed Slight smile
