I have just bought a new Edge 830 to replace my old 800 which has gone a bit AWOL.
How can I transfer the OS maps from the old 800 (on the SD card) to the new 830?

Just connect your new 830 and dump the map files in the same directory as the other maps. Not sure what that directory is without plugging mine in, but the map files are the only really big files on there.
If there's a file name conflict, I think you can just rename one of them to soemthing else. If there isn't enough space, then you will have to delete one of the other ones. Working out which ones you don't need might be a bit of trail and error.
Make copies of everything on your PC before deleteing them !
Thanks. I tried copying just what looked like the OS map file but it doesn't appear in the 830 Navigation > Maps section in order to be able to 'Enable' or Disable' it. What do the other, much smaller, files actually do? Some are SUM files and there is one that is a GMA file, an XML file a BIN file and a Text document file. Anyone know what these do? Is it necessary to transfer some of those across from the old 800 to the new 830 in order for the map file to actually work in the 830? Thanks.
I confess i am not really sure what you mean by OSM. Where do I find those? Do they give similar detail to OS maps?
I get a "Cannot unlock Maps" message when I start up the 830 having transferred the OS map to it. Is there a way to 'unlock' the map?
If you bought the maps preinstalled on the SD card then they are tied to the card and cannot be transferred to another card/device
Because they are horrible and don't have the detail available from an OS map. First look at those I am uncertain as to whether it would be possible to use it to navigate at all...
That's odd. I find that the installed maps have plenty of detail - North America
Why don't you download new OSM?
The Ordinance Survey (OS) maps are different (they are a UK thing).
The current Edges already come with Openstreetmap (OSM) maps.
