Reverse Course on device? NO??

Really incredible... I have the Edge 830, and I've never searched to this function, since it should be a basic one for a map device... Suddenly, I needed it during my ride... and I didn't find. I can't believe it doesn't have this function! It's a shame for a Garmin device. I don't use the Garmin Connect to edit my tracks, Garmin doesn't have any good editor, another negative point for it. So, I didn't know it's possible to convert using Connect... anyway, I can't ride with my notebook and cables... there are functions we need on the way, on the device. Any plans to implement this function?

  • Volker, indeed it could be the same thing in case you are in a unique path, with no shorter or cut off options, for example, a MTB trail. Using "back to the start", probably your device will guide you through the same course, but backwards. However, a "reverse course" function would work better on a loopback course, cautiously planned using certain roads, avoiding some regions, and, in the middle of your activity, you decide to go back using the same path. If you put "back to the start", the GPS will guide you through the shortest path to your starting point, and not backwards through your path. Another example: you're at the start/end point, and decided to do inverse course, to vary from the last ride, or to meet someone on the way, whatever... you have your Clockwise course, and you want it to turn Counter Clockwise. Your friends using other Garmin or Wahoo do it easily, and the Edge cannot, unless you decide to do a workaround using cellphone or notebook, taking a lot of time.

This is a basic function. I didn't though it was not available on Edge, just realized when needed and didn't find it. Rage

  • Why not just use the map screen. The path you have been riding is highlighted on the map. Just follow it.

  • It indeed works, as a workaround. Not in the case we need to see the numbers or in a track where we need to pay attention to the traffic while riding. In this case, I put on a screen with numbers or one that I don't want to see everytime, and hear alarms and look only when it shows turn instructions.
