Reverse Course on device? NO??

Really incredible... I have the Edge 830, and I've never searched to this function, since it should be a basic one for a map device... Suddenly, I needed it during my ride... and I didn't find. I can't believe it doesn't have this function! It's a shame for a Garmin device. I don't use the Garmin Connect to edit my tracks, Garmin doesn't have any good editor, another negative point for it. So, I didn't know it's possible to convert using Connect... anyway, I can't ride with my notebook and cables... there are functions we need on the way, on the device. Any plans to implement this function?

  • +1

My 5 year old Fenix 3 can reverse navigate a course.

But not the much more powerful Edge 830.

I hope this will get implemented

  • Navigating Back to Start

At any point during your ride, you can return to the starting point.

    1. Go for a ride.
    2. At any time, swipe down from the top of the screen, and on the controls widget, select Back to Start.
    3. Select Along Same Route or Most Direct Route.
    4. Select Ride.

The device navigates you back to the starting point of your ride.

Sometime a look into the manual before complaining/whining is usefulWink

  • Volker "whining" it's not about the trackback feature. I am aware of hat.

    Steps to reproduce whining reasons:

Step1: create a roundtrip course in garmin connect and send it to device (let's say direction clockwise)

Step2: travel to start point of the course and change your mind, you want to do the course anti-clockwise

Step3: on the device try to find the setting to navigate saved course in reverse.

Step4: whine on Garmin forums about missing feature (see similar request for Edge 530: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-530/192631/reversing-course-on-device-or-smartphone)

As mentioned in my previous post, I see this as a basic feature, more so that older / less complex Garmin devices have it.

    Thanks !

  • Please, see that I talk about inverse course, and not about back to start. They are different things, different functions, and indeed I can back to start using this function on Edge 830. What I cannot do is to invert the course. At least, this is not on the manual. In case you see it, please tell us here on the community, for sure it will be useful not only for me.

  • Sorry, seems that I confused back to start with course in reverse….Flushed

  • That was my first thought also. The only way I've been able to do it while in the middle of an activity involved quite a few steps...

    • Stop, then save the current activity (this might not be necessary, but my experience has been that while in an activity you cannot send a course from Connect to the device. Then stitch the 2 activities together afterwards using a 3rd party tool)
    • Go to Garmin Connect app
    • Open the course, duplicate (so as to not lose the original version)
    • Edit, then Reverse Direction, Save new course
    • Open the new course, then Send to Device
    • Do course on the Edge
  • Yeh, but this procedure is a pain, if you are outside in an activity. Even the Fenix wearables have this functionality out of the box…

  • , but this procedure is a pain,

I agree, but this is how it is possible.

  • Yes, thanks for the workaroundWink

And another question, maybe I have a knot in my brain:

where is exactly the difference, if I do a course in reverse or if I choose back to the start (along same route), if I decide during an activity to use this?

  • Probably best answered by . My thought is that it is possible that your "back to start" route might be different from the reverse course if you haven't been following the original course. Somehow you went off course or some other situation.
