Connection problems Edge 830 with Tacx Vortex smart trainer

Hi All

Although my Edge 830 (software 7.10) connects to my Tacx Vortex Smart Trainer (with current firmware) and displays speed and watts, 2 things do not work:

- I cannot calibrate my Smart Trainer with my Edge. I get off the pedals, so wheel is stationary, and then press 'calibrate' as instructed on the screen. A moving wheel appears and either runs endlessly or the message 'calibration failed, calibration error -1' appears. Calibration via the Tacx app on my iPhone, on the other hand, works perfectly

- the Smart Trainer does not react to changes in incline that I enter manually. This was still possible times ago. Both after manual input and automatically through the rides with Zwift.

I have had the exact same with a 530 and Tacx Flow but no-one (or garmin) has an answer

And Note that the trainer (Tacx Flow) calibrates ok using the option in "Menu>Training>Indoor Trainer>Calibrate" , if this works for you then the response to incline changes might then work?, works perfectly for me

I would just calibrate the trainer with the Tacx app. You don't need to do it via your Garmin if you can do it via the Tacx app.

Tacx Vortex Smart trainer requires real physical calibration adjusting the actual position of the contact point between tyre and roller. The Tacx app enables the actual measurement of the roller resistance after a rundown from a virtual speed of 30km/h. Garmin and any other brands of head units are obviously not capable of this sort of manual adjustment and I don't believe it is possible to electronically compensate either the lack of or excessive friction on the tyre. I have no experience changing the virtual gradient.
