Help me understand the Locked Screen function

I know that I can lock the screen of my Edge 830 by pushing the power button while riding.  I usually lock the screen when riding in the rain. Seems like a good idea, but the screen then isn't truly locked -- I can still change the views by swiping.  Whenever I try to wipe the raindrops off the screen with my palm, it changes the view or brings up the pull-down menu. What is the point of this?  I don't know if this is a feature or a bug.

When I lock the screen, I want to be locked, so whatever touches the screen (my hand included) doesn't affect it.

  • I still can't see the purpose here. When it rains, my unit is almost unusable. The screen makes weird shifts, rolls down the top menu etc. And the return arrow, is not working so I can't  come back to the main screen. Then I lock the screen - and the same thing happens. Completely unusable... Lock screen should be as it says - locked. Come on Garmin.

  • Its locking the saving not the swiping

So this functionality is more to not ruin your ride

From 365 days , how many days you are riding in rain?

  • Well from October to April, our roads are almost wet every time we ride. And I am training on the road with team members. So water, dust and gravel is on the unit after a couple of minutes, almost every time we are out. But ok, if it is not at screen lock, but only to prevent ruining the ride, I get it. But then they should make a screen lock.

  • Hmmm, I think Garmin will not ever change something like this (or turn off Virtual partner)

The best solution is to buy someyhing with buttons, I know that it does not answer your questions

  • They should, but people have complained about that before to no avail. The only time I've ever seen a real complaint on these forums turn into a change was the recent Di2 battery level indicator change that was reverted... And for all I know they will change it back in the future.
