Edge 830 functionally bricked since 5.10 upgrade

Since the Edge 830 5.10 software upgrade my 830 has gone from a useful device to one that is functionally bricked. Whilst  it starts ok, at some point during a ride it loses connectivity to phone and senors and the buttons and touch screen lose functionality. A long press is required to turn off the device and then it sites with the power symbol on the screen for a few minutes before shutting down.

Have gone back to my Edge 520 in the meantime. Merry Christmas to me. :^(

  • I noticed the following:

    - Did several rides the last weeks with my crossbike: Stages GEN3 Powermeter, HR-Sensor, no Radar connected --> No Sensor dropouts or a freezing of Edge unit (on +2h rides)

    - Today first commute of the year, different bike: Newer Stages GEN3 Powermeter, HR-Sensor and Radar connected --> Two rides, both <1h, two times lost connections to all Sensors and the Phone! All came back really soon but still strange...

Besides that the Edge is complaining all the time about a low Battery level of the newer Stages Powermeter (battery is new, and it is not doing this on the other powermeter) I think it has to do something with the Radar connection (it least in my case..)

Do you also use the Garmin Radar?

  • It sounds like on your commute bike you are paired to the Stages power meter over BLE and not ANT. This is likely why the sensors dropped out and why you are getting a low battery warning from Stages.

Disable the current Stages pairing on your commute bike and re-pair over ANT. Then delete the BLE pairing from the sensor list.

  • Thanks for the quick and useful answer, will check it! Slight smile

Edit: You were right, BLE connection to the second power meter. Changed to ANT+, will report  after the next commute ride.

    Thanks

  • Problem seems to be solved (at least for me).

These dropouts and in worstcase even killing the Edge completly are gone after I changed the Powermeter connection to ANT+.

I did not recongize that it was connected via BLE (and I was aware about the recomendation to use ANT+).

Maybe this info helps also the others here...
