  • I don't who writes the user manuals for Garmin, but that person needs to be fired and you should be given that job.  Thank you for this.

  • +1  Really appreciate this kind of effort/explanation.

  • This is so good and interesting an explanation that I decided to order an 830 right now rather than wait for the supposed release of ClimbPro on the 1030. I really want these features and would say I have wanted them for more than a decade.

    Very nice desription and thanks.

I updated to 3.55 but ClimbPro still has a lot of work to do. I noticed that Red and Dark Red colors are reversed.

The other thing I noticed is that there were some climbs recognized that shouldn't be at all. I literally finished a climb without pedalling.

So far it looks like a hit and a miss.

  • Thanks I will check the colors in the document.

I added an additional note to my posting last night after looking at some data from a another forum user that was having issues.

The elevation data provide by different sites are not all equal and can result in some strange effects as you found with your ride.

As a test take your ride data and use that to create a course either in Garmin Connect or on the Edge. Open the course on the Edge and look at the identified climbs and compare those to the climbs that were identified from the original course file.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough - the colors are reversed on Garmin itself, I don't think you did anything wrong. It's just that climb that really was HC was colored Red, and Cat.1 was colored Dark Red. It really looks like reversed colors, because it makes sense that hardest (HC) climb is Dark Red, but it wasn't. It kinda threw me off couple of times, because I rode a route that I never rode before.

The original course was a copy of another rider, and I shortened it during the ride, so I don't think the test you're suggesting would work. Plus, it's really hard to say now just by looking at the course if the climbs are right or wrong Slight smile

  • Nice job writing this up - very useful!
