How do I interpret this elevation graph?

This screen shows up during my ride while navigating a route. What am I looking at? Is this the upcoming elevation plot? Is it where I've just ridden? (I suspect the latter since I took this photo shortly after a descent.) Is it supposed to show my current location on this graph somewhere? This doesn't seem particularly useful, so I am wondering how I am supposed to use this screen. (Can't find any reference to this in the user's manual.)

If you are following a course it should show your position on the profile.

As you say this looks like the free ride mode where you are assumed to be on the leading edge and it is showing your past elevation data.

Where you navigating to a destination or following a course?

I was following a course. I had the 830 create a round-trip course for me based on a selected distance, then navigated the course.

I've had troubles with this graph of 'past elevation' frequently shows up when following a course rather than the plot that shows what's coming. I suspect a software bug.

I see no reason to see where I've been. I was hoping it would show what's up next, even if I have not created a course/route.

How will it know what is next without knowing where you are going?

It will know if you're on a course. Just like it should know how many miles/km you have left to the destination. Wahoo does this.

It's showing you the profile along your course/route for the next 2 miles.

There's a "0.5 mile" horizontal scale in the lower right square.

The there is a "120ft" vertical scale in the upper left square.

These scales show the distances the boxes are showing.

Hi, I have new 830 and experience the same issues. Plus sometimes when I go up curve shows I go down and opposite. I see that this thread is 2yrs old but it seems that the question may still be not answered - please did you find out the answer? Or any other thread that anyone can recommend? Thank you for help :-)

This is rather straightforward. If you are following a course the graph shows upcoming elevation changes.Keep in mind that grade runs about 30 seconds behind reality so the graph will lag by that. The scale is adjustable for elevation and distance. If you are JRA "just riding along" then the graph shows what you have done also delayed by approx 30 seconds.

thank you, yes I just checked in JRA mode and its as you say :-). Now I try it in course mode :-)
