Intensity minutes - Edge + watch

Hi all!

I'm new owner of Edge 830. Before that, I've used my FR935 for bike activities, and every ride increased my Intensity Minutes. Now I'm riding with Edge, without FR935 on my hand. In both cases I always use HR strap. Edge do not increase my Intensity Minutes. What's more - day HR timeline don't shows graph for bike activity. Of course in concrete ride I can see HR graph. On both devices I have Physio TrueUp set on.  Do you have similar behaviour or it's something wrong with my setup? Garmin can't help me... Disappointed

ps. e.g. recovery time from Edge, activity is visible on my FR935.

  • i also find it frustrating that i need to use two devices on my ride. I have a fenix 6 pro and an edge 830. I want to leave my watch at home for ride. I don't need the bulk or weight and also it a perfect time to charge it.

Leaving the watch on but not recording does work, but it doesn't pick up my HR strap unless i start an activity.

Its also frustrating that my watch logs steps, when i'm riding...at it knows i'm riding.

Future updates should do the following:

    • Count intensity from edge
    • not log steps during rides.
    • Delete any steps logged from Garmin connect when a ride happened at the same time
    • Add my heart rate from edge to my HR timeline
    • If move IQ on fenix detects a ride taking place, use HR from HR strap.
  • Garmin at it’s best. Clowns

  • And who would like to add a cycling computer as a activity tracker. We speak about INTENSY minutes, it’s a shame that your super duper software team not has the ability to integrate that. But i am sure that dog tracking will be out for edge in the near future. We use thousands of dollars, and this is what we get. ***

  • Hi,

Did you get any answers /solutions for this? At present I use a VA4 watch and use and Edge 530 on the bike. I did my morning commute today, 1 hour, the Edge showed my HR at over 100 for nearly the full ride, I was wearing my watch at the time but not recording an activity, I didn't record any IM which I find hard to believe.

    Thanks

    Paul.

  • Hi!
But what I seen is that wearing your watch during indoor cycling activities, the minutes are counted.
This was the only way to seen my indoor workout added to "Intensity minutes" screen.

  • Hello,

wearing my fenix without registering activity does not calculate IM. It looks like I need to record activity using my edge 830 and fenix 5. Which is soooo redundant.
why is it a problem to calculate IM in edge?

i though that IM Is a garmin metrics and not wearable metrics.
May you please make it for the whole garmin community and just implement it?

    c.

  • I just noticed it today that IM is not counted when I'm on the bike only with my edge 830. It's been 2 weeks since I have also a forerunner watch. I'm surprised by how little integration there is between my new watch and old edge. It all looks like an afterthought.

  • Same issue for me as well. Seems there is no fix and it’s pretty crazy that this isn’t managed when other metrics work across both devices.

  • If you use a Garmin Hrm Pro Strap the IM calculated correctly

  • Nope. Still doesn’t with the Garmin Edge. Only with the watch. It leaves gaps in the HR data on Garmin Connect as well. So it’s definitely a problem and should be fixed. Other makes like Wahoo and Apple have had this work properly for years, and platforms like Strava have similar measures like fatigue which all work with data from multiple devices.
