830 will not turn on

I had a strange problem today.  I charged the unit using a charger (not the computer) and the 830 powered off as expected when full charge was reached.  However, when I went to do a ride, I could not turn it on.  Tried the power button many times, also held it >10 seconds to try for a reset.  Nothing worked.  I then used the USB cable to plug it into the computer.  that powered it up and after that, could power up and down with the power button.  I looked for an error log file after my ride, but could not find one.  Any ideas?  I will have to do some testing to see if this repeats.  Note I am running the beta firmware.

I'v had the exact same problem twice now. After full charge just will not turn on. Eventually somehow I get it to turn on after multiple combination of button  when itpresses. Annoying when it to happens as it's not possible to get it working straight away. Has the issue been resolved yet. If so what is the solution?

  • I have created a ticket for this as it seems several of you are reporting the same issue. As a workaround you can press and hold the power key for 15-20 seconds or until the device power up to perform a soft reset and the device should power on. This will not delete any of your stored data.

Thanks for filing this.  I'm having similar problems with my Edge 830, less than 2 weeks old.  It's on the latest normal firmware, 5.10.  Once it was dead (0 charge) less than 24 hours after charging to 100% and turning it off.  Today I charged it and got exactly the problems reported above.  Holding the button for 12 seconds was not enough, but 1 minute brought it back to life.  Next time I'll try your suggestion.

  • I have had exactly the same issue multiple times after fully charging my 830. Is would be nice to see some form of acknowledgement from Garmin.

Same issue here, after a full charge, unit was not turning on. Connecting to computer immediately started the unit

  • Just got mine today, 1st time out after setting up. DEAD.

Get used to it. Hold down the left button until it turns on. Mine does that about every 10 cycles. Also, keep it plugged in. I got burned a couple of times where I turn it on to head on a ride and its nearly dead. I'm guessing it's staying connected to my network even when off. Other than this, its been pretty good.

  • When mine woke up it showed a significant battery drain from full, about 15% used. Do you find it happens when you use navigation or just anytime...trying to determine if there is a correlation. Thanks. PS way better than 820 that's for sure.
