Is your Edge 830 temperature showing correctly?

My Edge 830 regularly records approx 5-10C higher than actual ambient temperature, and it increases slowly if the Edge isn't moving. So I guess this is reading the internal temp of the Edge rather than ambient temp?

Since a number of metrics are based on this, including it seems e.g. smart alerts for hydration, these tend to be way off. Today a not very taxing 20-mile ride in max 16C weather was recorded on the Edge as mostly in the low 20s, and suggested 2,134 ml fluid loss, which seems excessive. 1 x 750ml bottle was fine instead of the recommended almost 3 bottles.

Same problem here, i change my 820 for a 830 and i noticed 3-4 ° higher for the 830 when used at the same time...

I have just moved up to an 830 from an 820 and I have also noticed that temps are shown artificially high.

Okay, the Device takes it from the surrounding area of the Edge, the Weather widget gets from the phone, which gets it from the nearest weather station (mainly airports in most cases) - that is normal for them to off by a little bit

They suggested I take a picture on my next ride and send it to them.

Its totally strange on Garmin devices/ecosystem.

The Edge weather widget takes it from airports. In my opinion, not mainly but always. The watches weather widgets take it from somewhere else, its much more accurate. The Garmin Connect website takes it from a third source, it differs often from both widgets.
I wonder, wich source heat acclimatization and Running Power Data field from Garmin take.

The devices don't record ambient temperature, that is not possible because the don't have an external sensor (as long as you don't use the dinosaur Tempe). They record internal temperature.

Sending them pictures won't help that much. Requesting them often to consolidate that mess to the most precise weather service with the most stations would be much better.

I would be fine with this but does not make sense in that Garmin states the temp will show higher if the device is in direct sunlight.

The devices do have a temperature sensor, as confirmed higher up in this thread. It is in the device but there appears to be some clever compensation going on.

The data field crashes whenever the lap button is pressed so it's a work-in-progress but it's still pretty good. I have the Tempe mounted under my saddle so it's not in direct sunlight.

I've seen differences of 4-5 degrees C when the Edge is subject to the full glare of the sun.

My edge 830 also shows 2 to 4 degrees celsius
higher than a garmin edge 520 and three temperature
stations that I have tested. the measurement of the instantaneous
grade of slope is also very faulty, it has a delay
of 15/20 seconds. They are joke functions

my garmin still shows 2 to 4 degrees Celsius higher. At home, compared to 2 weather stations, on the road compared to an old GARMIN 520. The 520 does give exact temperature compared to weather station
