Sensor Dropout Feedback

We realize how important sensor data is to our customers and how frustrating it can be when there are issues with it. If you are experiencing these issues with sensor drop outs the engineering team would like to understand the following information to help understand the issue.

  1. What version of Edge 530/830 software are you using?
  2. How long into your ride did the issue occur?
  3. Did all of your sensors dropout at once or was it just one?
  4. Did the sensor connection(s) recover on their own?
  5. What sensors did you have connected with the issue occurred?
    1. What sensors were connected over BLE?
  1. Did you have your phone connected?
    1. Is it Android or iOS?
    2. What version of GCM do you have?
    3. Were you using LiveTrack?

    Well... Yes, But sometimes it took 20 minutes

    Mostly radar(rtl515), garmin vector and mobile. Sometimes also hrm pro. Hopefully paired But not connected do not discrimante the connection?

    Hopefully this makes no sense since all sensors are garmin, i would say they find the most appropriate and reliable way to connect?

    And also cell phone connection was dropping. Strange that with previous unit this did not happen at all. (Or is it with new software?)

  • Well, it seems that I had too many sensors "activated" - but not connected to Garmin 830. It seems like looking for reconnection disconnects the other sensors (?).

    I had disabled two HRMs which I occasionally use (Polar Verity and Suunto), and removed old Garmin which broke and is not working anymore.

    Pull down menu:

    1) Scroll to "Sensors", picked the 2 ones I don't use often, and set "Enable" checkbox to false.

    2) Then also picked one I don't use at all and clicked "Remove".

    All the dropouts stopped occuring. Except for "Right sensor missing" on Vector 3.

    Now I have "active":

    - Radar + Lights (2 rows),

    - Vector 3 Power - there are four rows? one Power via ANT, Cadence, via ANT, Power via BT, Cadence via BT

    - Edge Remote

    - HRM 

    I would say, that "right sensor missing" would stop if I pick only one source of Power - either ANT or BT? (I did not have this error forquite a long time).

    5. What sensors did you have connected with the issue occurred? Di2, HR, Cadence and Speed

               Garmin Speed sensor 2 firmware 2.30 => latest version

               Garmin Radar RLT 510 firmware 3.70 => latest version

               Garmin Edge Remote 

               SRAM AXS shifters, voor- en achterderie latest firmware

               SRAM Quarq Power meter latest firmware

    3. Did all of your sensors dropout at once or was it just one? All and light network was always trying to form after that
    4. Did the sensor connection(s) recover on their own? After several seconds all except lights
    5. What sensors did you have connected with the issue occurred? All ANT+: varia radar RTL510, Polar Verity Sense HR, Stages gen 2 powermeter left, Bontrager ion 200 RT, Garmin remote
      1. What sensors were connected over BLE? None, just phone

      1. Is it Android or iOS? iOS 14.6 iPhone X

      3. Were you using LiveTrack? Yes with shared track, no issues here

    3. Did all of your sensors dropout at once or was it just one? All three dropped out at different times and for different durations
    4. Did the sensor connection(s) recover on their own? Yes, but then they would drop out again.

      1. What sensors were connected over BLE? HRM, speed, cadence (all garmin)

  • 1. Version: Edge 830, I've looked through the menu but can't figure out how to (1) know which software I'm using or (2) upgrade to the newer version. I get an upgrade reminder when I'm getting ready to ride and when I finish a ride...when I'm NOWHERE NEAR AN INTERNET CONNECTION. And that's the only time I get the reminder. I've searched through the menu and can't find a way to update the system manually.

    2. How long into the ride? Immediately. It wouldn't connect with my iPhone although the iPhone shows that it's connected. The Garmin sensors eventually connected at the start, but then were lost and found along the way. It wouldn't send the Live Track link because it needed to be connected. Catch 22.

    3. Throughout my ride I'd hear beeps indicating that the 830 had (1) found my speed sensor (it was connected at the start), (2) found my cadence sensor (it was connected at the start), and (3) found my heart rate monitor (it was connected at the start). It's obviously losing contact and then finding it again (why?).

    4. Did the sensors recover on their own? The ones that indicated that they had did (I assume). The phone never did connect and hasn't for the last few rides.

    5. Sensors: Heart rate, cadence, speed, power (RS200 pedals)
    BLE: No idea.

    6. Phone connected? No. It wouldn't despite holding it next to the 830 when I turned on the computer.
    a. IOS (iPhone 13 Pro Max)
    b. GCM (WTF is GCM?)
    c. I was trying to use Live Track. It failed (again and again)

    7. FIT files - Where would I find FIT files to upload?

  • Pretty sad...three years and this Garmin induced problem is still not corrected.
