Map of Europe is too big to install

As the title already says. The entire map of Europe is too large to install. Unfortunately, I can only select a part of Europe (e.g. Central Europe) and not additionally e.g. Western Europe. This is very unsatisfactory for people like me who live near the borders of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
I could well do without the inaccurate Climbpro.
So back to the alternative maps again.
Garmin, it's disappointing!

    did you work out a way to select sub-regions?

    It simply is not there. I am SW developer writing SW since late 1990's (also to Windows and Macs) and I would assume I would have seen it if it was there.. I have updated both Garmin Express and 540 to latest SW. I have also tried Windows version of Garmin Express, in addition to Mac, without any luck.

    Worst user experience ever, I bought my Edge 540 late last year (less than one year ago)..

    Hi, a friend of mine has the same issue... What we did is that we copied the Europe map from my 530 device to his 540 device and it seems to work. I am sure, there is some difference between the map versions, but not sure what. Anyway, the 530's all whole Europe file is smaller and works on Edge 540. If you know about any limitations (cons) please let me know here.

    It really does look like Garmin don't care enough to offer a fix. But the easiest way round this is just to install the relevant OSM country map from https://garmin.opentopomap.org/
    Dead easy, and works just fine.

    Do you download the "Garmin" file or the "Basecamp" file?

    Thanks, just tried the France Garmin file and it is "corrupted" when I try to run the disc image file :/

    I"ll try downloading it again

    UIPDATE: Oh I think I should be just copying the *.img file to my Garmin 540 device, not running it from Windows. I'll try that

    Yep, I have exactly the same problem as plenty of others here - My Edge 540 does not have the storage capacity to load both Western and Central European maps, which, considering I was planning a bike packing trip across both regions, is totally unsatisfactory. Having had some communication with Garmin and sendin them all the data they requested, two months later, I got an email telling me, if I now update my Express and reload the regions I need, this issue can be resolved. Well, surprise, surprise, it has not - I still cannot load both regions.

    I will never buy another Garmin product - their customer service was once quite good, but no more. I have spent a lot of money on a third rate product, which does not even accurately map my local area - it's an abysmal device.
