Map of Europe is too big to install

As the title already says. The entire map of Europe is too large to install. Unfortunately, I can only select a part of Europe (e.g. Central Europe) and not additionally e.g. Western Europe. This is very unsatisfactory for people like me who live near the borders of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
I could well do without the inaccurate Climbpro.
So back to the alternative maps again.
Garmin, it's disappointing!

  • I find a way to install 2 europe regions. First go in the Garmin folder, delete all .img files then I find enough space for install 2 europe regions. I install it with Garmin Express.

  • Issue is now solved. Install version 7.23 of garmin express and you can select smaller portions of Europe (central, Eastern and western) map to install onto your Edge 530 device.

I recently moved from Australia to Germany and was facing this issue with a useless device with no local maps.

  • This issue, unfortunately, is still NOT solved. The central European map, which I require for my trip, is too big to install alongside my western European map. There is enough storage capacity to install some 'smaller' maps, which are useless for my needs.

In my view Garmin products have regressed badly in the last couple of years; their customer service is abysmal and despite several communications they appear no closer to satisfactorily resolving this issue.

  • No doesn't, check next comments.

  • I can confirm that issue is solved for Edge 540 too.

First, make sure you have latest Garmin Express version (in my case 7.23.0.0). To check for new version on MacBook navigate Garmin Express > About Garmin Express > Check for Updates to Express.

When that is done, these are the steps that I took:

    1) make sure Garmin Express is closed (on MacBook cmnd + Q)

    2) turn on your Edge 540

    3) connect device to laptop (wait till you see usb connection screen)

    4) open Garmin Express

    5) select your device (which should have status "Connected")

    6) navigate to "Manage Maps" (you will see updated UI, where multiple maps can be installed)

    7) uncheck boxes that currently are checked

    8) select Apply Changes (this will initiate process of removing existing maps)

    9) when process is done, I safely ejected device (eject button in Finder next to Garmin device) and closed Garmin Express

    10) repeated steps 1-6, this time selecting Europe West and Europe Central

    11) select Apply Changes (this will initiate process of installing fresh maps)

    12) repeat step 9

    13) repeat steps 1-6, this time you might see that there are updates to latest versions of the maps 2024.10

    14) I had updates to latest version, so I navigated to "Manage Maps" and checked boxes "Update to latest version" (or something like this, don't have that sentence in front of me)

    15) repeat step 9

At this point I had working maps. You can double check map version and if they are enabled on device itself: Manu > Activity Profiles > select profile > Navigation > Map > Map Information

  • Can any moderator confirm this? Why is not in release notes?

  • Thank you for these very concise instructions, which I followed to the letter. However, it still didn't solve my problem.

  • Do you mind sharing what exactly is the problem that you have? Could be that I had similar issue.
