Live segments

I can't get live segments to work on my Garmin 540. I've ensured Strava is selected on the garmin connect dashboard for segments, and I've starred some in Strava. When I ride a route created in Strava, or in Garmin Connect, it doesn't pick up any live segments.

When I turn on my garmin, it shows segments in the segment explore screen, but if I go to this when I'm riding, it gives me a permanent wheel of doom.

Is it me? or is it a bug?

I'm running 9.29 software version.

  • "if you're riding your bike on a route with navigation, segments won't work".

That's different from my experience. They do often work with a route loaded. In fact, I've read others say that they ONLY work with routes preloaded. But that's not my experience either. They do sometimes work, regardless of whether I'm following a route or not.

  • Segments didnt work with a route loaded on my garmin. Also segments aint working on friends 1030 if he uses a preloaded route.

Well i dont have any problems with segments loading, just stared segments i would like to see and get notified, in the GC app i set Garmin segments and everything works with no problems. As i see in the GC app, new segments are to see as i finished a new ride.

But my 540 garmins Climb works amazing Sunglasses

  • Segments with a route will work, but the course needs to be sourced correctly.

For Strava segments the course needs to be created in Strava and synced to Garmin Connect using the Strava/Garmin Connect integration. The course will include any starred segments that the course path follows at the time the course is created. Strava will exclude any segments that they consider to be downhill. You also need a Strava premium account or whatever that is now called.

For Garmin Connect segments then the course must be created in Garmin Connect.

  • Hi,

i have the 840. What you have to do is, after you have created the route in Strava, you need to check the Segments on the route and favorite them. After that you need to favorite your created route and then check on GC if the starting and ending points are visible (see screenshots). If this isn't working turn off and on the favorite button for your route and then it should work
