Edge 530 version 9.79b - Are we done?

Is this issue solved? Anyone know? I want to buy 530.

Not for me.

There seem to be a great many of us who are lucky to not have any sensor drop problems, but I am not discounting the complaints that are on here.  The problem seems to be rather mercurial, striking some units without rhyme or reason.  I have some belief that a larger number of sensors connected seems to exasperate the problem.  In addition, using auto-pause or pausing the ride in any manner seems to be more present in those with the problem.

I don't use any pausing, auto or otherwise.  I never use "sleep mode" either, my 530 is either on or off.  I also don't use turn by turn for navigation, I just follow the course line on the map for navigation.  I have a speed sensor, remote, and heart rate strap on every ride.  I have three bikes, each with its own speed sensor which my 530 flawlessly detects correctly at the outset of each ride.  I almost never get a dropped sensor and if I do it reconnects immediately.  It seems the few times it has happened for me I've often been on a heavy steel bridge that could certainly mess with the ANT+ signals.  I also keep WiFi turned off on the 530 as that is another potential source of interference.  I do stay Bluetooth connected to my phone and use LiveTrack.  I also regularly sync with Garmin Express and Garmin Connect software just in case there is any magic smoke there.  I keep the memory fairly clean, with less than half of the allowed courses saved and delete previous rides frequently.  All generally works as it should for myself.  I find myself wary of another update which could upset my apple cart, but I do wish for a solution for those affected.

Based on the number of posts on this subject here, compared to how many thousands of units have been sold, I'm guessing the problem isn't as widespread as it seems.  I'd recommend buying it but be prepared to return it if you are one of the afflicted.  Good luck!

Great summary Cranky K..  My use is just about identical, FW 9.75, no auto pause, no battery saver unless I'm dealing with a nearly dead battery, no sleep mode, no navigation and if I do it is by making a course "always visible" and then using the map screen to orient myself, always bluetooth connect with phone, wireless remote on one bike, auto live track, auto upload, periodically purge activities from activities folder via PC, only occasionally connect to Garmin Express via PC.  I only have one bike with speed sensor.  I use a Garmin HR chest strap on most rides but also use an arm band style one from time to time.  Both connect no problem with my 530.  I do notice occasional drops in HR signal when wearing the chest strap, but I attribute that more to the strap being old and/or me getting sweaty and disrupting the HR connection to me vs HR connection to the Edge.  Sometimes I'll get a random speed sensor found alert while riding, usually a short time after I've stopped.  It seems like a long time after the stop to wake up/reconnect with speed sensor.  Random phone connect/disconnects seem to happen during each ride.

All of the features should work, irrespective of users' chosen settings.

I agree that they should all work.  I'm just pointing out that those of us that don't need certain features and don't use them seem to have greater success.  

the best way to minimise sensor drops is to ensure both wifi and bluetooth are turned off. But you will probably still get occasional ones. also turn off wifi and bluetooth on your phone 

Just my experience, but just having wifi turned off on the Edge has been very successful for me.  I only started doing that because it was interfering with LiveTrack.  Initially I needed to turn wifi off on both the phone and Edge for LiveTrack to not drop, but they must have fixed something, because I leave wifi on the phone on now and it still works.  I've left wifi turned off on the 530 because I don't use it for anything anyway, so no reason to have another source of interference and power draw.

The best way to get fully away from sensor drops is to force Garmin to replace faulty unit. After 1,5 years of claiming this issue to Garmin I received new one (in fact: NOH - Newly Overhauled Device) and NO DROPS AT ALL !!!

had my all sensors dropped today simultaneously for a brief moment (magene radar, 4iiii power crank, coospo hr monitor).

3 weeks ago this caoused edge to crash and reboot!
