Strange "Alert" message, never seen before.

Whilst riding on Saturday, a strange "Alert" message appeared at the bottom of the screen that I have never seen before, white text on a black background:-

It consisted of the warning triangle with an exclamation mark inside it, followed by the text "1234567890".

The only alert I have enabled is heart rate too high and at the time my heart rate was low, so no chance of that being corrupted.

The only sensors connected are cadence and speed along with the "Garmin Remote".

I have looked at the list of events and nothing is showing for that point in time

This is with the Version 9 update.

It happened whilst on the "Climbpro" screen, and sadly as I was climbing, I could not get my hand off the bars quick enough without unbalancing to get a screenshot.

Check you alerts - i had the same thing happened to me - didn't know what it was also it happened to me - eventually found out i think somehow there was an alert for every 10km achieved - probably a default. Disabled it and it didn't happened anymore.

  • As previously mentioned, I only have one alert enabled, and that is for a high heart rate and this was only enabled for a very steep hilly ride and did not want to "Blow" on a steep hill when looking at a data page with no heart rate field set up. Normally, I do not have any alerts set up.

But, I have now found out, that the alert can be repeated at exactly the same point on the ground whilst riding the same course and managed a screenshot.

Today I rode the same route but without the course selected and at the specific point where the alert pops up, nothing happened so that rules out and as my heart rate is low, it rules out a corruption of a high heart rate warning.

But, yesterday, I did notice an alert further into my ride when I looked at my 530  but before I could look at it properly it vanished off the screen the moment I noticed it. Perhaps it was the same alert message.

So, that now leads me to think, that it must have something to do with the course I have been riding, or as it happens on a hill, maybe something to do with "Climbpro".

When I get chance, I will open up the course with an editor and see if there is something at that specific distance in the file.

  • That looks like  a course point alert. Could you post the course FIT file you used.

  • If it is, then I'm curious about it as I have a course point well before at the start of the climb and one at the summit. But, I cannot ever recollect getting a course point alert ever on any ride that I have used course points.

Now I have the problem that I cannot insert a file into a post as that option is missing when I try and I can only add a URL. Not the first time though!!!!!!

  • The icon looks like the one for the danger course point

  • I'm stuck, I cannot upload the course fit file or even my activity profile. The option to browse for a file does not exist. Maybe a reboot of the computer may sort the issue.

  • I sent you a private message with my email address as emailing the file(s) maybe easier.

  • The option to browse for a file does not exist

Not easy to see, but click on upload.

If you're trying to attach a .FIT file, you'll need to zip it first or rename the file extension from .fit to something else that the forum will accept (.txt, zip, etc.)

  • After a reboot, I still cannot upload a file. But, I have now loaded the course up on the 530 and find that there is a "Danger" course point named "1234567890" at exactly at that point on the map and can confirm it on Garmin Training Centre. I cannot see why though, there is nothing dangerous apart from running a rabbit over on a dark night at speed down the hill.

But, I don't know how it got there, a mystery? Even more so when no icon shows up on the map page before the "ClimbPro" page kicks in and course points are enabled

Also the alert message I got a brief sighting off also relates to a course point that I did create so maybe they do show up, but only if your lucky to be looking at the 530 at the time and if there is a "Beep", I cannot hear them unless it is very quiet and no wind whistling through the helmet as I lost my hearing of the high frequency range in the army and no option menu to change the tone..

Next time I ride the course which will be next weekend, I will take careful attention of what really does happen.

Thanks for the help on pointing me in the direction to look for the issue.

  • How and where was the course created? Did some else create it?
