Elevation profile - flat and unchanging despite riding for many km

I have the elevation profile coming up on the bottom of my map screen when using my Edge 530.

Using routes from RideWithGPS (route created in RWGPS, then pinned on RWGPS, automatically synced with Garmin Connect, and then transferred to Edge 530 when I turn it on and it wirelessly syncs with my iPhone).

When the elevation profile comes up on the map/navigating screen during a route, not only does the actual green profile just look completely/almost completely flat regardless of the incline, but the blue/purple pin was just stuck about a quarter of the way in from the left, and completely unchanged despite riding another 25km on the route. Towards the end of the route, the VP pin appeared to the left of the position pin, but the two pins never moved in relation to each other. This isn't the only time I've noticed this and was wondering whether anyone could explain what's going on?

Climb Pro always works fine, whenever I do routes that have climbs that fulfil the criteria for ClimbPro to be activated. Yesterday's route, which is what prompted me to ask this question didn't have any ClimbPro eligible routing.

I took some screen captures but for some reason when I connect the Garmin to either Mac or PC, it's not showing up as a drive to be able to get at the pictures so I can't post one here annoyingly.

EDIT: the screenshot here shows what I am trying to describe, except both pins just don't move at all despite riding - https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-530/191886/route-navigation-view-partially-covered-by-green-bar

I have double checked that the routes from RWGPS do have elevation data (ie. when I look at the route in Garmin Connect, it has elevation data, and when I open the course on my Edge 530, instead of riding the course, if I click on elevation, it shows the elevation data.
