Speed sensor repeatedly disconnects and then reconnects

I have a 530 that worked flawlessly for years. Then about six weeks ago the speed sensor started repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting throughout the ride. I thought it was the sensor battery so I replaced the battery. That fixed for a few days but then repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting returned. So then I deleted the sensor from the 530 and added it as new, no change. So then I thought the speed sensor was bad, so I bought a new one. The new one is doing the same thing, repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting. I checked this morning to make sure I have the latest updates to the 530 from Garmin Express. Yes, I have the latest updates.

I'm at a loss. No idea how to fix this. It is very annoying as the 530 gives a visual and audible notification when the sensor reconnect occurs. That means my 530 is beeping every 5 minutes or so throughout the ride. Ugh.

Any ideas on how to fix?

ANT+ or BT connection between the sensor and 530? Have you tried the other connection method?

Sounds like the sensor drop out bug from the latest series of FW updates that has been widely complained about on this forum eg

Thank you. Other people's experiences sounds very similar to what is happening to me.

I tried Garmin Express today hoping there was a new firmware update that would resolve the issue. Nope.

There are people on these forums who are beta testers, but from reading various threads i do not believe that there is a beta that solves it yet. Although it feels like the day to day users are actually the beta testers with Garmin edge sometimes.

FYI, you don't need a speed sensor for an outdoor ride. The unit will take speed from GPS unless not available. I have one that i use for rollers workouts and leave it on the wheel (so i know where it is). I noticed today that it kept dropping as it bleeped when it reconnected. Was probably every 10 minutes on a 90 min ride.
