When Garmin will release the next version of the Edge 530 (maybe 540 or 530+)

Somebody knows when Garmin will release the next version of the device Edge 530 (I guess Edge 540 or 530 Plus)?

Will it be this year 2021. There is some rumors in forums talking about April 2021. Is it true?

What will be the new features of this device?

Thank you in advance!

  • When riding with sunglasses I need the backlight set at 80%  (I assume this is the same for most people?) and then the battery is quickly drained. Additional sensors like heart-rate, cadence or power also require energy. With an Edge Explore I can ride for around 8 hours, for long rides this is a critical margin. As you've written, the 530 should last twice that time (seem to be more efficient).

An eTrex without backlight last around four days (8 hour rides) and even if the batteries are empty, just swap them in the middle of a ride. I will not even stop the GPX-Track. I miss the TrackPoint :(

That's not normal.  I don't need the backlight on with sunglasses.  If you have polarised glasses and the polarisation angle lines up with the one of the screen then it would appear darker than usual.

  • Agreed. I have never used a backlight on a garmin for daytime riding and have had several types of cycling sunglasses over the years. Even for riding in the dark i only ever used it at 10% / constant.

  • I run my Edge 530 with backlight always on, auto brightness and auto day/night settings.  I ride a lot at night, so I want default behavior to be backlight always on so that it is lit up throughout my night ride.  I have no idea what it does during the day, but I have never had issues seeing the screen.  Battery life seems as long as advertised to me, I think I recharge roughly every other week.

  • Well I was one of those who expected the 540 / 840 / 1040 to be released together but with the anticipated 1040 release soon (today?) that does not seem to be the case and we will have to wait some more. With the benefit of perfect hind-sight I would have been better to have bought a 830 due to ease of use and better customisation of the elevation screen and more and more my eyes tell me the 1030 bigger screen has greater appeal. If I sell a few bikes and probably the car I might afford a 1040 so interested in what the imminent release brings, but will wait till the new year perhaps to see the early adopter feedback and hope prices become more sensible..

  • any updates? :)

  • A couple of months ago the Edge 530 and 830 pages on Wiggle.com were titled 530 Plus and 830 Plus for a few days before they were then corrected.  It seemed an odd mistake as even the URL to the page had 'PLUS'  in so was expecting an announcement shortly after.  I'm no good at guessing lottery numbers either.  Anyhow, bored of waiting for an 840 I ordered a 1040 on Thursday which the courier managed to lose on Friday and is still trying to find; maybe someone it trying to tell me something? - I guess there may be one on eBay soon...

  • For my own personal use I'm quite happy with my 530.  The only thing that would get me to consider a new unit would a PC GUI (in my price range).  I would love to have  a 530 featured equivalent unit that I could setup through my computer.

  • In Polish Decathlon online store, Edge 130 Plus, 530, 830 and Explore are currently labeled "End of product line", are out of stock and no longer avaliable, I thing successors are coming and it's a matter of weeks. Explore 2 has been released, based on it's spec vs Explore and 1040, from the new ones expect better battery life, better GPS, probably a little bit faster CPU and screen and some new software features, e-bike integration etc.
