530 does not start recording

For the past 2 rides, I have selected the activity and started it, but the readout shows 0.00 distance and 0.00 mph for most of the ride, and then it starts recording distance and speed at some point during the ride. I've tried to reset the device as well as make sure that I'm running the latest firmware, but is there anything else I'm missing to try to get it to actually work correctly?

  • i didnt use mine for a few months, and today i could not get it to record, or start my route.. so annoying, as I was already riding.. my wahoo NEVER did this.. Garmin :( Thumbsdown

  • same issue.. it's been doing this for a whiel now.. i missed so many good rides already. Couldnt be more annoying. My wahoo never ever had this problem. Garmin seems to only have issues for me. $400 piece of garbage

  • I did what Cranky K did - turned auto pause off, and for some reason mine stopped starting on its own while rolling, so I had to manually press start on the side.

    maybe give that a go

  • i dont know how to manually hit start on the side? when i do that, i just go into the navigation menu .. there is no way for me to 'start'.. i just get a blinking 'start/pause' arrow in the screen..

  • The start button is the right one on the bottom of the device. The blinking arrow means that the timer start mode is set to prompted, which you can change by editing your activity profile. I think you might need to look at the User Guide to familiarize yourself with the device.

  • i think for me that just goes one step back.. however, i switched the start mode to 'auto' .. hopefully this will work. i wil give it a try today.. thanks much Peter !

  • If that button makes you go "one step back" you're hitting the wrong button!  The "one step back button" is on the right SIDE of the unit, lower button.  The Start/Stop button @PeterK_55 is referencing is at the BOTTOM Right of the unit.  The buttons are described accurately in the first few pages of the manual.

I don't mean to be harsh, but there's no hope to using the unit correctly if you don't know what each button does.

  • For the months now my 530 is hit and miss whether it decides to record a ride or not, when it won't it only records timer, elevation and time of day, and after an hour or so into the ride it will suddenly start recording as it did today. I've rebooted it, cleared everything off it, "soaked it" and am now having to hedge my bets on every ride by using my I phone as a back up to record the rides on the Strava app. I've reached the end of my tether with this and its not as if I haven't had Garmins before, having had a 500, a 510 a 520 an 820 and now this one. Any suggestions before I parcel it up and send back to Garmin.?

  • same for me.. it's really not a great tool.. maybe I am just unlucky with mine. the distance is wrong, the altitude is wrong most of the time.. it's clunky to navigate, the screen sucks.. overall its an expensive piece of garpage really .. my cheaper, and older wahoo is better.. to be honest, the entire garmin platform sucks.. i finally got a forerunner and was all excited but it's really equally uninspiring. my apply smart watch is far superior.. there is only one feature where garmin is better than apple and that's battery.. the rest, it blows. .. just my honest opinion. i am sure many people love it, and maybe i am just unlucky with the 530 and not used to the watch..
