New Edge 530 Version 7.00 inaccurate and unresponsive elevation/grade readings

I'm on my second Edge 530 after a warrantee claim on the first.

Unit has been going fine until I recently updated the software to 7.0. Now I don't get any accuracy on total elevation, and the grade is totally screwed during the ride.. Showing a negative gradient on a 2 km steep climb,,,

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's not a FACT, it's your OPINION. Respected reviewers, such as DC Rainmaker have found the GPS accuracy not just on Garmin's but also other manufacturers roughly in line with previous generations.
People should get some looser pants. It's also very possible that your particular device is faulty, which is irritating but not the end of the world. Overall feedback on the 530 has been very positive for most people and you're unlucky, as we all are sometimes, if that not your experience.

  • It is not only my opinion. There are lot of " opinions" like mine . Almost reviewers are paid from GARMIN and all  manufacturers . Especially the most famous, the more famous the more they sell . Don't be naive. I have not nothing particular against GARMIN. I am not fanboy of anything.

  • I had the same problems after upgrade from 7.0 to 7.1 version ...
Luckily I was able to fix the problem and my Garmin is working OK again after 1 week of reading, many downgrades and upgrades ... :(
    Here is my fix:

  • 20 seconds for instant gradient it's not a instant update , so your device follow working incorrect. No so so bad like 40 seconds but 20 seconds it is very far to be instant.

  • 5081011...I agree.

I based my decision to part with my hard-earned entirely on Garmin claims on the box and relevant advertising on the particular model.

Well perhaps not entirely because I have owned and extensively used 3 x Garmin G6 (Golf), 2 x Garmin Nuvi (Car) Garmin Vivoactive, Garmin Edge 500 ,Garmin GSC 10 , Garmin Heart Strap for many years (8+) and never regretted a single one of those purchases because they were fit for purpose , true to the marketing claims and Garmin then were a much respected brand and deservedly so.

The Garmin Edge 500 /GSC 10 instantly registered high and low speeds and a dropout was never observed.

The GSC10 was checked against the car Garmin Nuvi GPS using official highway distance markers at speeds 20/30/40 and was spot on.

I bought the 530 bundle just over a week ago and have been riding every day

The 530 itself is OK but the sensors are junk.

I am not a beta tester.

I am not interested in the scientific detailing of the susceptibility of new-age sensors to interference at various Hz levels.

I am a bike rider for fun, enjoyment and fitness. Period.

If the speed sensor rolls over many many times during a ride on smooth surfaced seaside boardwalks and bikeways  ...this morning (again) from approx 37 km/hr to 4.5 km/hr triggering the pause function.... and if this has happened every day since the purchase ....it is because the sensor is junk.

The concept might be wonderful but it does not work at this point in time.

If Garmin want to send me a product - no charge - and use me as a field tester - fine.

If they sell me an expensive product that does not work as claimed it ain't at all fine.

  • I noticed wrong elevation display in my Edge 530 with both firmwae versions: newest 9.50 and older 9.10. When I turn on the device before a bike trip I sometimes can see for exapmle 4127 m above sea level :) Then I restart Edge and then it displays proper value 227 m Slight smile
