Speed sensor not used by EDGE in Indoor Mode

Hi All,

i've just used my new Edge 530 in an indoor session. I have an Elite Direto as trainer and Assioma power meter.

The edge is paired with Assioma and 'should' use Direto as a speed/cadence sensor (i can see it paired correctly)

The problem s that speed showed by edge seems to be calculated on assioma watt and not on direto speed sensor. I ve disconnected the direto speed sensor but edge keeps on showing speed so i m pretty user it is NOT using the trainer speed sensor.

I have also edited wheel circumference as explained by elite but even if the size is dramatically changed (elite suggest to divide actual wheel size by 12.1).

Is there a way to 'force' edge to use the speed sensor to estimate km/h and not watts?

Thanks for the support.

Fabio

It seems like edge estimates my speed using assioma watts

should work when the assioma is only power

    • check in the sensor setings for the assioma

you do not use the direto as a smart tri…

if assioma is only power should the edge calculate my speed with assioma watt or direto speed sensor?

    "should" ?

assioma is only power, why "should", your edge is never ever…

    hi Fabio,

did you turn off the assioma cadance sensor in the edge ?

    oops

the not used has 4518 id that i know for sure is the direto id.

indeed it is, sorry for the confusion

  • so i have 4 different speed sensors and only one is set as elite suggest (174mm) and it is NOT the one edge is using...

the difference between edge speed and zwift speed is 'only' 4 or 5 kmh..so i'll try to edit the 2096 value in the only place i know that value is: elite app...

  • so today second test session with my edge.

i ve checked on assioma app and there is NO wheel size setting in assioma PM:

i ve checked in edge in the 'smart trainer' menu (that as u told me was NOT under sensor menu). I ve edit the wheel size there setting it to 2099 mm

I ve edited in elite app setting wheel size to 2097 (just be sure that is different from smart trainer setting)

I ve also tested for a few km during ride pedaling only with right leg so assioma (i ve the left pedal only version) was reading 0 W but speed was always at about 30/31 kmh.

    this is the file 5508964860.zip

as u can see i still have a 2096mm wheel size value  in 2 sensors: assioma and direto

2099 now appear in the '4518' sensor.

i really don't know where i can edit that 2096 but the next time i ll try to disconnect the trainer completely to see if it will use the direto speed sensor...

    hi,

personally would check if I could deactivate the cadanse sensor from the assioma

    • two cadance sensors in conflict with each other

as u can see i still have a 2096mm wheel size value  in 2 sensors: assioma and direto

2099 now appear in the '4518' sensor.

    • indeed, that is correct
    • '4518' being the direto trainer
i really don't know where i can edit that 2096 but the next time i ll try to disconnect the trainer completely to see if it will use the direto speed sensor...
    • why not try it with an extreem value in the '4518' direto trainer to see if this is the index (7) data

looked at the fit file with FFRT and is identical with the previous activity

    just losing hr data

  • i d like to keep the assioma cadence sensor alive because when i'm outdoor is the only cad sensor i have.  i have also checked in the favero app if there is something related to cadance but i ve not found anything.

Next time i will edit the direto wheel size to a really bigger value as u suggest.

the odd is that the 2096value  is no more present in all the sensors i checked neither in any app. maybe when i ve edited the wheel size in elite app i should have restarted the trainer or something similar.

p.s. i confirm that my heartrate strap is dead during the activity...

    • could be but the 2096 was in the fit file of the last activity as you told before

  • What is needed on the Garmin devices is a way to control sensor priority. I too have had similar issues to you with a smart trainer, and the only way to work around it is to disable the trainer device completely.

  • Un update about the issue: turning of the direto as smart trainer makes the direto speed sensor works fine. Now if i edit the wheel size of the direto speed sensor i see changes during my ride. It is not perfect since zwift it is still a lot different but it s ok for me.
So garmin was using the direto trainer as speed sensor..the odd is that editing the wheel size in direto app has not changed the wheel size i saw in logs above.
