Speed sensor not used by EDGE in Indoor Mode

Hi All,

i've just used my new Edge 530 in an indoor session. I have an Elite Direto as trainer and Assioma power meter.

The edge is paired with Assioma and 'should' use Direto as a speed/cadence sensor (i can see it paired correctly)

The problem s that speed showed by edge seems to be calculated on assioma watt and not on direto speed sensor. I ve disconnected the direto speed sensor but edge keeps on showing speed so i m pretty user it is NOT using the trainer speed sensor.

I have also edited wheel circumference as explained by elite but even if the size is dramatically changed (elite suggest to divide actual wheel size by 12.1).

Is there a way to 'force' edge to use the speed sensor to estimate km/h and not watts?

Thanks for the support.

Fabio

It seems like edge estimates my speed using assioma watts

should work when the assioma is only power

    • check in the sensor setings for the assioma

you do not use the direto as a smart tri…

if assioma is only power should the edge calculate my speed with assioma watt or direto speed sensor?

    "should" ?

assioma is only power, why "should", your edge is never ever…

    hi Fabio,

did you turn off the assioma cadance sensor in the edge ?

check the icons for each sensor type that show on your edge

    do this for every sensor

turn all off and turn them on one by one to see the sensor types used (icons)

what icons appear when you only activate the .... sensor

    • direto power
    • direto cadance
    • direto speed
    • or direto speed/cadence combined
    • assioma power
    • assioma cadance

    thank you for the feedback

Now i have and edge 530 so i ve tried to pair it as my forerunner (i didn't care if indoor i see 0 km rides).

Now i see that edge display a speed so i'm trying to make it more 'realistic' but i see that even if i edit the wheel circumference in direto speed sensor  in edge settings (i tried 174mm as elite suggests) speed doesn t change.

only assioma power sensor active and no other sensors active be it ant+ or bluetooth ?

there is no wheel setting in the edge's sensor settings for the assioma ?

check settings via assioma app on the phone

So if u tellin me that there is no way that edge 'estimates' speed based on watts i ahve to understand if editing the wheel circumference in the sensor is the same thing than editing the circumference in elite app who manage the trainer.

    which "the sensor" ?

how about deleting all sensors in the edge and start with only the assioma paired

to see if speed is derived from that sensor by the edge

  • Thank you for your patience Slight smile

I try to explain better my indoor situation:

Direto PM paired with my zwift PC via ant+
Direto Cadence paired with my zwift PC via Ant+ (zwift don' t use speed sensors, it calculate speed using watts)

Direto Speed/cadence paired with edge via ant+ (wheel circumference manual set to 174mm as Elite suggests)

Direto PM paired with edge but NOT active

    Assioma PM Paired with edge

NO assioma cadence paired with edge or direto.

this is my today session: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/5503866326

one more thing: if i disconnect direto speed sensor in edge during the ride...speed does not change.

these are the sensors used during your indoor activity

sensor 4 is a combined speed/cadance sensor ! according to you the direto speed/cadance

    • looks to me more as a favero sensor because it has no serial number
    • please post the zip file to check which is which sensor
    • (zip the fit file and drag & drop it on a new post)
    • or you can check yourself with help of Fit File Repair Tool

sensor 6 is the direto as trainer ? do not see this in your list

trainer sensor you will not find in the sensors menu but in the .... Slight smile

    • training menu !
    • is the direto paired ?

  • Hi 5503866326.zip

This is the file u have requested.

in the trainer menu direto is NOT paired but let me check it when i ll be at home. tomorrow i'll do another session and i ll see what happens.

I have also an elite smart sterzo (a steering device) paired via BT.

thank you for the fit file, will have a look at it

if the only thing you want to know where to set your speed with this combination

you have to do the test I propesed earlier

find out with only one sensor connected at the time !

thank you for sharing the fit file

    these are the sensors used

the index numbers correspond with the logged data

there is no bluetooth sensor connected

index 6 is internal baro sensor

looking at the actual data, cadance is coming from the assioma (index 4)

    • and this conflicts with the direto having a combined speed/cadance sensor
    • and the favero having a combined power/cadance sensor
    • if the direto had a single speed sensor instead of the combined one this would work ok
    • question stands , where do you set the wheel size Slight smile

speed is coming from the direto

index 7 is I guess the direto trainer

  • very interesting. i don't have my edge here but what i can clearly remember is that:

Direto is paired ad a speed AND cadence sensor because i see two icons near sensor name.
Assioma is paired only as a PM ..i see only one icon near its name (a PM icon obviously) so cadence from assioma is 'hidden' in edge menu but it works.

i didnt know that cadence was transmitted by assioma because i haven t see any cadence icon near assioma ...

I have 2 place for the direto where i can set circumference:
    1) in the direto speed sensor on edge (already done)

    2) in the direto circumference page  in the elite app that i use to calibrate the trainer.

elite says that if the direto is used as a speed sensor the circumfernece should be manual edited as 174mm  but if the direto is paired as a smart trainer the circumfernce should be 'real' (2096 in my case). I m pretty sure that direto is not paired as a smart sensor (i ve seen that menu in settings) but i ll check one more time

Now i know for sure that edge is not using direto speed sensor to calculate my speed because i ve obtained same results with 2096 and 174mm....(edited in edge sensors menu).

I will try to edit the circumference in elite app and see if something change...i will also unpair direto speed sensor now that i know that edge use assioma for the cadence.

  • thx. so
assioma and direto trainer has a 2096 wheel circumference that i know i ve setted in elite app but not in assioma app.
Direto speed sensor has the 174mm i ve forced in edge sensor settings
the not used has 4518 id that i know for sure is the direto id.

i can edit the 'direto trainer" and see if "assioma pm" will change its circumference.
