Speed sensor not used by EDGE in Indoor Mode

Hi All,

i've just used my new Edge 530 in an indoor session. I have an Elite Direto as trainer and Assioma power meter.

The edge is paired with Assioma and 'should' use Direto as a speed/cadence sensor (i can see it paired correctly)

The problem s that speed showed by edge seems to be calculated on assioma watt and not on direto speed sensor. I ve disconnected the direto speed sensor but edge keeps on showing speed so i m pretty user it is NOT using the trainer speed sensor.

I have also edited wheel circumference as explained by elite but even if the size is dramatically changed (elite suggest to divide actual wheel size by 12.1).

Is there a way to 'force' edge to use the speed sensor to estimate km/h and not watts?

Thanks for the support.

Fabio

It seems like edge estimates my speed using assioma watts

should work when the assioma is only power

if assioma is only power should the edge calculate my speed with assioma watt or direto speed sensor?

    hi Fabio,

did you turn off the assioma cadance sensor in the edge ?

    hi Fabio,

did you turn off the assioma cadance sensor in the edge ?

  • Hi, in the edge assioma is only paired as powermeter (i see only 1 "dumbbell" icon ). The only sensor with the cadance icon is the direto (cadance and speed icons).

what happens when you turn off the direto power sensor

guess the direto is a combined power/speed sensor ? or are you seeing all separate sensors in the edge

or do you connect and use the direto as a trainer ?

  • Hi. I have paired the direto only as a speed/cadence sensor. Only assioma is paired as PM. I can see the direto PM icon but it is not active.

When i start sensor detectin direto appears as two different sensors:

    1) speed/cadence (active in my sessions)
    2) power (Not active in my session).

It seems like edge estimates my speed using assioma watts

you do not use the direto as a smart trianer

outdoors you only measure speed with GPS

    2) power (Not active in my session).
    • turn if off

  • Sorry OnlyTwo i missed something:
if assioma is only power should the edge calculate my speed with assioma watt or direto speed sensor?

Someone told me that when in 'indoor' mode speed is only calculated with watts even with thousand of speed sensors paired.

    "should" ?

assioma is only power, why "should", your edge is never ever calculating speed from assioma power

perhaps via a CIQ app it could

did you check the settings in assioma sensor

Someone told me that when in 'indoor' mode speed is only calculated with watts even with thousand of speed sensors paired.

Slight smile speed is calculated by your irdeto from the watts and send to your edge via a speed sensor

speed is not send by your assioma to the edge

how long are you using the irdeto and assioma combined ?

true if your power meter is working as a combined power/speed sensor

is it possible to turn speed off with the assioma app ?

what happens when you turn off the direto power sensor

turn it off in the sensor menu from your edge

  • Thx for your answers.

I use assioma and direto combined since 2018 but assioma was paired with a garmin forerunnner 920 as PM so in garmin connect i was only able to see watts (my indoor rides in garmin connect were all "0 km rides")

Direto has always been paired with my zwift pc via ant+...

Now i have and edge 530 so i ve tried to pair it as my forerunner (i didn't care if indoor i see 0 km rides).

Now i see that edge display a speed so i'm trying to make it more 'realistic' but i see that even if i edit the wheel circumference in direto speed sensor  in edge settings (i tried 174mm as elite suggests) speed doesn t change.

So if u tellin me that there is no way that edge 'estimates' speed based on watts i ahve to understand if editing the wheel circumference in the sensor is the same thing than editing the circumference in elite app who manage the trainer.

  • direto power sensor is OFF in edge 'sensor' menu. the icon is gray and i can see in the details it is not active.
