Edge 530 Version 6.00 impressions

Since the main topic is closed for replies, let's share our feedback here.

My first impressions (updated 19-Aug):

- No sensor dropouts (but will test further, as I am at holiday location at the moment)

- Routes are being loaded noticeably faster than on the last beta 5.68 - good job there, Garmin!

- ClimbPro did not glitch at all, even combined with navigational instructions (subject to additional testing on a route where it crashed last time, but again - I am not in my home country at the moment)

- Overall speed and responsiveness - compared to 5.68 beta - way better!

- Creating a route in Strava and have it auto appear (via GC) on the device still seems to get the elevation wrong, I guess still work in progress there

- LiveTrack - not a single issue, but it is been like this for a while with me (paired with Galaxy S10)

- Strava segments - not a single issue, actually I really like the new layout at the end where it compares the times of the KOM, your PR and the current time

In other words - pretty happy with the new firmware! Will report if anything goes wrong, hope it does not.

  • That is not good and I just installed it even though I was thinking about not doing it since 5.50 works really well for me. Worst case I will just re-install 5.50 but hoping for a good experience so I don't have to do that.

  • Update installed, Created route in Strava, segments starred, Garmin App shows those 12 segments correctly with violet flags.
Edge navigates the route but does NOT TRIGGER ANY live segment.
Ridiculously all segments lack the start but have the end visible in the navigation map of the edge and I also get a message that the segment ended -- but no live segment triggered -- well -- how could this work if the edge does not know where the start is?

I understand that live segments will never work well, but this is much worse than before.
With firmware version 5.5 at least 40% of live segments triggered.
    Awful version ..

  • Same here I never had a problem with Live Track until my first ride with 6.00

Hey gang, let’s all remember how incredible it is that they’re making progress and releasing new versions in light of a cyber security breach and a pandemic. I’m not saying it’s perfect, but this version delivers very significant improvements that benefit our beloved 530’s.

  • Thats BS! The breach is through their own inept making and highly likely most of their software team are remote workers anyway

  • No training calendar on device. I am not sure that there was a calendar section previous FWs. But I am sure there was teh section before v5,5. I used it 2 plans.

Assuming you have your device in-hand, Garmin owes you nothing.  Keeping this in mind should direct our posture towards any efforts they make to add additional value.

  • They have a poor release protocol. This was in Beta for a minimal time to what point? Should've seen some of these issues during feed back from that.

  • First time I've ever had drop outs with my SRAM Red eTap.  Constant drop outs ever few seconds, both gear ratio and battery indicator.  Disappointed

  • OK, have to report this... Radar Varia disconnected - just once and for a second, but it did show "Radar disconnected". Pity, was hoping that would be fixed. Anyway, more testing to follow.
