Physio TrueUp issues

Only just got a second device so not sure if this has ever worked, although it seemed to...

Been using Fenix 6 for most activities. Got an Edge 530 and everything seemed to transfer across and both Training Loads etc were the same.

Did a Ride using Edge 530 today, followed by Strength and then Swim, both on Fenix 6.

Edge Training Load is higher than Fenix. Strengths and Swim are showing in History on the Edge, but the ride isn’t visible on the Fenix.

Ive tried syncing with Express to eliminate the current poor iOS sync experience that myself and others are experiencing.

Is this working for anyone?

ALSO POSTED ON FENIX 6

  • Works!! Short test ride and all sync’d between Edge, F6 and GC. Fingers crossed this continues!

  • Training load and recovery time now correctly syncs between everything? Looks like this might have been a bug backend-wise and they have fixed it then..

  • That’s what I’m thinking

  • The problem does not seem to be solved consistently. With my combination edge 530 and forerunner 245 there is still no synchronization  :-(

  • Hmmm, So I did another ride indoors using the Edge 530 and it worked again! What I have noted is that you often have to sync twice to get the same data everywhere. So, record a ride on the Edge and sync, adds it to GC. Sync with F6 and it’s now on the F6, but the GC view of Training Load for the F6 is still missing the bike. A final sync with F6 then brings it all up to date.

The other point - it takes a week before they all get back in sync because of the activities missing from one of the devices are still in the 7 day count back. I set up a spreadsheet to compare the changes I expected to what was reported on the devices and in GC. They all tracked correctly, though with different absolute training loads, until the missing data dropped out of that 7 days,

Good luck! It’s great when it works!

  • I will continue to watch the function and hope the best  :-)

  • So I used both my Fenix 6X (was navigating but did not save, and it had my HRM-TRI on) and Edge 530 (saved cycling activity) and my Fenix thinks there was 2x the load for today.

GC notes that I was in the middle of an activity during that time, so I'm not sure why the Fenix isn't smart enough to not double count. I guess Garmin only wants us using one device at a time?

  • I think it would be generally better if garmin does not put the calculations for physio trueup on the devices, but transfers them centrally to garmin connect. That would have a lot of advantages  :-)

  • Probably. I looked at it again and the Edge thinks my activity yesterday and a few days before that was the same training load (despite yesterday being longer, having a higher TSS and TRIMP impact by 50%+). Fenix thinks yesterday was twice the load of a few days ago.

I though there were both supposed to be calculated using FirstBeat algorithms though, so they should match up?

  • I have an F6 and will be adding an Edge 530 soon. I plan to use the F6 as my source of truth for activities (since I use it for non-biking activities, rely on Body Battery which 530 doesn't support, and because of WHR - I know I can broadcast to 530 but one less thing to worry about and potentially less battery drain this way) and use the Edge 530 to display data/navigation and for Varia alerts during rides and then discard the activity at the end.

If I go this route, will the Edge 530 show Training Status, VO2M, Recovery Hours, etc via Physio True Up? If so, I would expect that doing it this way might also get around some of the discrepancies in algorithms between devices that might be the cause of different numbers shown in different devices.
