Physio TrueUp issues

Only just got a second device so not sure if this has ever worked, although it seemed to...

Been using Fenix 6 for most activities. Got an Edge 530 and everything seemed to transfer across and both Training Loads etc were the same.

Did a Ride using Edge 530 today, followed by Strength and then Swim, both on Fenix 6.

Edge Training Load is higher than Fenix. Strengths and Swim are showing in History on the Edge, but the ride isn’t visible on the Fenix.

Ive tried syncing with Express to eliminate the current poor iOS sync experience that myself and others are experiencing.

Is this working for anyone?

ALSO POSTED ON FENIX 6

  • Hey there,

    I have F6 ,edge 130 & 530,

On edge devices, only bike activity are sync., on F6 all activity but no training load from edge 130,

Training status is different beetween run and bike, never had same value from F6 & edge 530 ( no training status with edge 130)

Useless feature with more than 2 garmin devices...

  • Interesting. I sort of expected the Edge, not being multisport to be the one that didn’t have the complete picture, but it’s the Fenix for me! Not good enough!!

  • Hi,

My observation of Physio TrueUp is that data from a device that doesn't support a particular metric doesn't get recalculated when it transfers to a different device. So for example the Edge 130 doesn't calculate training effect/EPOC values, which may be why activities recorded on it don't contribute to your training load on the 530 or F6.

For me all activities recorded appear on all devices and contribute to TL/recovery time etc, though that's only been for the last few months after firmware updates. Prior to that activities went missing. Now TL numbers are still not the same between devices, but do move in consistent patterns and on any given day the different devices show a similar position within the "optimal" range, even though the numbers defining the range are different. Is that how it's working for you too?

From experiments I've done I think the cause of the difference is how higher intensity workouts are processed - if I do a low intensity activity the numbers change on both devices by the same amount. Perhaps in my case the devices from different generations have different algorithms - but I wouldn't have thought that would be the case with a 530 and F6. Ultimately though I've decided not to worry about this discrepancy too much as relatively speaking the devices are telling me the same thing (how much work am I doing now relative to recent history).

I think with all of these metrics they're better used as a guide than expecting absolute precision. However activities not syncing is definitely bad!

    Michael.

I agree with all of this. I would expect them to be much closer with two new generation devices! Will try Garmin support on Monday and see if they can offer any help Thinking

Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

  • Happy to help!

    I should have added before that I use a 530 and a F5.

  • Maybe there is some hope. I’ve now recorded two activities on the Edge. The first, indoor bike with heart rate and power, did not show up in the Fenix and wasn’t included in that Training Load. The second though, outdoor bike with HR and Pwr, does show up on Fenix and is included in Training Load.

First could have just been a one off, or something to do with it being indoor (no GPS). More data needed.....

  • Ok, so now we seem to be getting somewhere. Did an indoor bike, recorded on the Fenix and this has synced as expected! Also, now that the ride that didn’t sync (recorded on the Edge indoors) is no longer in the past 7 days the training load ages between both devices!!

So, conclusions so far: everything recorded on the Fenix sync’s OK, including swims. Outdoor rides on the Edge also sync but not the one indoor ride recorded. Need to test that again.

  • Can confirm that indoor rides with the 530 does not sync properly to the watch (Marq Athlete). It does show up on "last activity", but training load and recovery time does not appear.

  • Strange! Wonder if this is a bug or an intended omission - can’t imagine why it would intended since indoor rides on the Fenix count to the total load! Least if it’s a big, it can be fixed!

  • It's most definitely a bug. It worked throughout all summer when I rode outside with the exact same setup. Too bad I can't go for a ride outside now to test it, too much snow!

    Any input on this?
