Wrong low battery notification on stages power meter

I connect my stages gen2 to edge 530(firmware v4.1) by BLE. Due to ant+ will result in power drops, BLE is my only choice.

However, the low battery notification from edge 530 is unreasonable. I even got low battery notification after I replaced new battery 3 mins ago.

Did anyone using stages meet this issue?

  • I see you have no response closer to your use case, so I just add in my experience with Stages Gen1 over Ant+. I rarely get dropouts with the Edge 530, but I did notice that I get more dropouts when the battery is getting lower. Also sometimes the low battery notification triggers on the head unit and then it's fine again for another 10 hours of riding later on (no battery alert on connection).

Just some helpful guesses here: are you storing your bike somewhere very cold? maybe the battery reports low because of the low temperature. Second guess is maybe low quality or old CR2032 battery that cannot put out enough power, so the voltage drops, triggering the low battery alert. It's also possible that the Bluetooth connection is more computationally intensive for the power meter, so it triggers the low battery alert sooner than Ant+. Be sure to try it with some fresh, brand battery like Panasonic to rule that out. Good luck. Otherwise probably Stages support can do more for you than this forum.

Edit: just noticed this related forum post here about this issue: looks like BLE is the problem: forums.garmin.com/.../stages-low-battery-indication

  • Thank you for the reply, it seems that wrong low battery indication in BLE connection is a known issue and hope it can be solved by garmin.

My experience to stages ANT+ connection is the same as you. I got more drops while battery is low, but it won't occur in BLE connection. So I change to use BLE for more stable connection.

  • Same problem here.
Garmin Edge 530 and Stages Gen2 through BLE connection, shows Low Battery warnings even 1-2 rides after replaced with new battery.
I have found your post after looking how to disable the power meter low battery notifications, at some point they get realy annoying -stiill havent found a way to do it.
I havent check the difference between ANT+ and BLE connection, will check at some point to compare.

  • I would recommend switching over to using ANT. There are issues with the BLE battery status implementation
