Can't get Live Segments to work

I initially starred 3 segments in Strava and they all downloaded to my Edge 530.  I was going out today so starred several more segments and none of them appeared on the phone.  I tried multiple times with no success so I went into the segment settings and deleted all segements from the device thinking I could just start again.   Since then I haven't been abe to get a single starred segement onto the device.  One thing I have noticed a few times is that before the sync has even completed it pops up a message saying "deleting segments" then a second message pops up with "deleted all segments".  It's almost as if it downloads them and then deletes them but I have no idea why.  Any help would be appreciated as I'm finding it intensely frustrating.

    Hi Blake,

    Was a fix for this issue ever implemented? I have been having similar issues where not all my starred segments show up on my ride. For example, yesterday i starred a total of 6 segment and while on the ride, only 4 of them activated the live segments pop-up.  Furthermore, on the 4 that did work, one or two of them only popped up once the segment was over, showing my result.  Thanks in advance for the help.

  • I've been playing around with this too.  It seems to me that any segment in Strava that is restricted due to negative grade, too short, or flagged will not transfer over to the 530 even if you have starred them in Strava.  I've found that if you can't set a goal for the segment in Strava that it seems to fall within one of the three restrictions.  This is just my assumption.

    Exactly what you say. This limitation is strange and you are right about the Set Goal feature - if you do not have this option then there is a comment: Downhill segments are not eligible for segment goals and then this segment won't be transferred to your device.

  • I seem to be having same issue where not all my starred segments are appearing in the 530.  A little frustrating

    Good luck. Same 530 issues compared to year ago. 
    get Wahoo. No route BS needed. Segments appear and it works.

    I also have the same problem, some starred apper, some note. Did you solve the problem ?

  • Agreed. Switching to wahoo has been a huge improvement. Wahoo devices are not as feature rich but they get everything they do right. Recently went back to my 520+ and started experiencing this issue with no resolution found online or through support tickets.

  • whilst disappointing, this description makes sense (about downhill segments) however, if the Starred segment appears in your Garmin Connect dashboard, then surely once Garmin have them there, they should download to the device??

    Having the same problem with new release 6.0.  What gives, Garmin?
