No Garmin segments displayed during ride

Since I got my my Edge 530 I have not seen any Garmin segments (not Stravaa) displayed during a ride. It worked perfectly on my Edge 520 plus. Everything is enabled...Segments and the data field. I have tried deactivating and reactivating my almost 20 segments....but nothing helped so far. I am running the current version 5.30.

Any ideas?

  • Many thanks for your answer. But I still don't get it... when I import a course from Komoot for example as GPX or TCX file on the Garmin Connect Website and send the course in GC App to Edge device...they will be transfered as fit file including the Garmin segments?

  • Should do if the course is hosted in Garmin Connect. When you select the course for your device Garmin connect builds the FIT file on the fly.

  • I have uploaded a Komoot gpx file to the Garmin Connect Website into the course planer and exported the course to the edge via the GC iOS App. No Garmin segments have been displayed during the ride. In the recorded activity I can see that 3 segments are recognized. Could it be that it only works if I create a course from a recorded Garmin Connect activity?

  • hi. the garmin segments dont  work only during course ride ?

when i ride without a course i see the segments

  • I'm seeing segments but have been a bit tempramental. Biggest issue is PB are stuck in device. I have a support call with Garmin with so far no joy.

  • So that means that if I want to navigate a course that is already on my Edge and I want to add a segment, I would also have to reupload the course as the segments would be embedded within it? I'm going to try that soon, but if you think that this helps, tell me!

  • Segments get embedded into the course file at the time of export so if you add a new segment you would need to re-export the course to get it included in the course file.

  • Sorry, but this discussion about segments has me very confused.

I'm still learning how to use Garmin segments, but my understanding is that whenever I ride through a segment it triggers it. I did not think it needs to be part of a predefined 'course'. Maybe I'm just not understanding the definition of 'course'....

    thx

  • You shouldn't be confused as that's logical and what you would reasonably expect. I think this thread is trying to make sense of how Garmin have complicated it. I've definitely noticed inconsistency in segments since I bought my530 earlier in the year.

  • If you are not doing any navigation then the unit will automatically detect segments as you come upon them.

If you are navigating by following a course then the segments need to referenced in the course for them to be executed.
