Remap Buttons

Is there any way at all to remap which button does what? I'd like to swap the Enter and Back buttons  - I'm guessing not, but can't hurt to ask, right? Slight smile

I generally use the Garmin on the bike in sort of a left handed pinch grip with thumb and forefinger and it just seems really awkward to keep moving the thumb to the top of the device to get to the next screen when using the selection buttons at the same time.

  • One problem with allowing that is that the behavior is no longer standard.

Things that talk about what button to press will be more confusing.

  • And yet somehow we mange to survive with smart phones and devices where everything is customisable Wink

It’s not a major issue, but if it could do it, it would be great, it’s only a bit of code.

  • But the devices aren't smartphones (they are much more limited devices). And lots of things aren't customizable on smartphones.

Smartphone manufacturers don't really do much with reconfiguring buttons.

"A little bit of code" is that for more than one device (it would be odd to add it just to one device) and that means lots of expensive testing. There are probably more major issues that need to be addressed.

  • I've suggested years ago to Garmin about adding a tick box in the settings to swap the two side buttons for the two bottom buttons. I don't do "laps" so for my average cycle the buttons I press are:  Lap button (never), Start/Stop button (once to start recording a cycle and once again to stop it), side buttons (hundreds of times per ride as these change through the display pages - gradient, map, numbers).

Thing is of course, the two side buttons are difficult to press and weren't meant to be used often, while the two textured bottom buttons designed for easy pressing almost never get used.

A tick box in the settings to swap over these buttons would be the last great annoyance of the 520 solved. Have the bottom buttons change through the pages and the side button do the Start/Stop and Lap features.

Same here.  The lap button is useless for me, and just annoying when pressed accidentally.

  • I’m sort of opposite with respect to the lap and start/stop buttons, I don’t use them at all (also, with the 530 on my k-edge mount they are almost jammed against the faceplate of the stem anyway so I can’t access them). I use the Di2 buttons to start/stop.

  • Any solution? My start/stop button is not working

  • Nothing yet on any update. I've got so used to using the side buttons all the time now anyway. Frustrating though that Garmin decide how I'll use the device rather the way I want to. Probably why the configurability of the Wahoo Elemnt or Karoo2 appeal.

  • I use the Gamin Remote with my Edge 130, it works great.  With the remote the buttons do have some customizing ability.

I'm surprised I don't see more mention of the remote, I love it.  With the remote I can page up and down without ever touching the unit.  I have the customizable button set to turn on the backlight with a short press (light still turns off automatically) and set to always return to the map with a long press.  I generally don't touch the 130 itself for the entire ride, only to turn it on and to save at the end.  The remote is just a simple thumb press without my hand moving from the grip, very important on rough mtb terrain.

  • Same for me. Remote is so useful and adds security, since I don't  have to leave the bars. It's a pity it's not been developed by Garmin in a better way, I mean more customization. Btw, it's on of the things that didn't make me try a Wahoo
