Remap Buttons

Is there any way at all to remap which button does what? I'd like to swap the Enter and Back buttons  - I'm guessing not, but can't hurt to ask, right? Slight smile

I generally use the Garmin on the bike in sort of a left handed pinch grip with thumb and forefinger and it just seems really awkward to keep moving the thumb to the top of the device to get to the next screen when using the selection buttons at the same time.

  • But unfortunately the Edge remote only has one configurable button. And of course it obligatory has this stupid "Lap" button which can't be reconfigured to something else...

  • Yeah, I vaguely remember disabling the lap function button on the 130, all it does now is take me out to the previous menu.  On the remote, the lap button is a total waste, I don't touch it.  It would be great to be able to have it as a second configurable button.  I think anyone not using the remote is missing out, it is a difference maker for me.

  • What can you do on the remote that you can’t do on the Di2 buttons for example?

  • That's above my paygrade, I'm a mountain bike guy and I don't have any interest in using electronic shifting.  It's bad enough I have to charge the Garmin, and lights in the winter.  But I'm curious of the answer from someone that knows.

  • I guess I was more interested in what you could do on the remote, from the brief reading I’ve just been doing it would appear you can take a Lap, scroll up or down a page and maybe start/stop a ride?

On my Di2 I currently have them set for

Left single click- scroll page up

    Left long press- stop ride

Left double click- turn on/off UT800 light

Right single click- scroll page down

    Right long press- start ride

Right double click- cycle light mode.

other options are (copied from https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=d1XZ957wEI6vC2m3jqIGz7 )

    • Next Page
    • Previous Page
    • Record Lap
    • Start/Stop Timer
    • Turn Back Light On
    • Show Map
    • Show Compass
    • Show Elevation Profile
    • Show Lap Summary
    • Show Virtual Partner
  • It appears your Di2 has a touch more capability than the remote.  Remote has three buttons:

    • Dedicated page up/page down button operated via short vs. long press.
    • One configurable button for long press vs short press.  As mentioned previously, I chose "Show Map" and "Turn Back Light On"
    • The worthless lap button that just stares at you, with all its worthlessness...

So you're already getting the advantages of the remote, just with a different remote.

  • I asked a few cyclist whoever they use the lap button  and out of all the people I asked nobody ever uses it. I think it's a wasted but on estate I  I would like to be able to reprogram it to some other feature like toggling  scrolling screens mode.  Of course Garmin has more user data so maybe there is quite a few people using it. But still I think this button should be reprogrammable.

  • Totally agree this useless button should be reprogrammable at least

  • I appear to be in the minority here, because I find the "Lap Button" very useful and use it on all my rides usually.

When I am on a long distance event etc, I can press it at certain points and then I can use it as an odometer which I have just zeroed and then I can get the distance ridden for that "lap" which is very useful when following a route card and you need to know how close you are to the next turn etc.

Also, I use it for off the cuff distance interval training quiet a lot.

Overall, I find the three buttons ample, but I think 4 buttons would be better and if they was all programable it would be better.

Normally, I have the programable button set for the map and the elevation pages. And then between each of those 2 data pages giving me 4 data pages overall. I then know that if I select map page or elevation page, I can quickly switch to the data page I want by just scrolling one page up or down with the 3rd button.

If I am riding at night, I will change the programble button from elevation to switch the backlight on just before dark

3866207.   And why would you want to change it to a toggling/scrolling screen, there already is one, so what would be the point off having two buttons with the same function?

  • How can I add my home address into the edge 530 so when I get lost I can just select navigate to home. I can't figure it out.
