GPS Accuracy

I do the majority of my rides with a friend who uses a Garmin Edge 130 in comparision to my Edge 530 - when checking our rides on Strava his tracking is noticeably more accurate than I'm seeing on my device (mine regularly cuts corners and tracks a fair distance from the road I'm on).

What is the recommended GPS setting for the 530 in the UK - currently using GPS + Glonass - I'd expect the 530 to track at least as well as the 130 but no luck at present!

I've attached a screenshot showing the sort of tracking I'm seeing on every ride - my friends 130 in comparison is always rock solid on the road and only occasionally cuts a corner.

Well I've finally come to ride with the latest software ( Software: 4.10.0.0 & GPS chipset software 2.50 ) on my MTB, and to me it seems like it has solved the accuracy problems. ( GPS + Galileo)

Track now follows my Fenix5X and the tracks of my fellow riders using other units, and distance is so close, that you can't argue that one of the units is the most corrrect as such. So by now I'm happy with the perfomance :-)

Accuracy now seems way better with 2.50 using GPS +GLONASS.

can be downloaded via Garmin Express or automatically through Garmin Connect Mobile.

Which is he more reliably accurate GPS setting, GPS+GLONASS or GPS+Galileo?

I'm not sure if that depends on where you live and ride, I've been using GPS + GLONASS since the 510 came out and on both the 510 and 530, GPS has been almost perfect (for me). I don't ride in dense forest areas though.

My 500 was far less accurate in areas with trees etc. (no GLONASS support).

We are at least 3 friends with edge 830 experiencing also GPS problems. When I'm in the forest the 830 the experience big jumps in the speed measurement, it seems to lost the GPS signal. Software version 6

Same problem on my 530. My friend ride speed is 12km/h, mine is 5-7 km/h. Is it a problem with GPS receiver or with the incline of terrain?

I know this thread is older, but I'd appreciate an update on what people are experiencing on the accuracy front?

No change from my post above. If it drifts off the road it doesn't go back. I can "reset" it by turning GPS off then back on again, swapping the satellites being used or putting the unit into sleep for 30 seconds to force it to reconfirm location. Drifting doesn't seem to be related to trees, tunnels, weather etc. (These will cause drift but that self corrects)
