Strava Live Segment goal settings randomly revert to Auto Select. Very frustrating, please provide a global setting!

I have figured out how to change the goal in my Strava Live Segments by going into each segment and manually selecting "PR" as my goal.

I am not, and never will be interested in beating the person I follow who is in front of me, and even worse, I don't care about my most "Recent Best".

There are one or two that I am targeting the KOM,

Yesterday, on several segments that I had previously set my goal a "PR", the screen came up with either a persons name or "Recent Best".

There should be a default setting which allows the user to choose which goal should come up. Them, the user could go into an individual segment to change the goal if he/she wants to.

And this setting should stick, not randomly change to another goal.

Why does the 530 randomly change the goal, even after I set it?

Also, to stop a current segment (sometimes I like to do this if there is a second segment that starts after the one that I am on) requires six button pushes. On my 820 I only had to push two.

Garmin, please fix these annoying issues!

Otherwise, the 530 is great!

  • Check the leaderboards on your FR935 I suspect that they don't show Recent, Last or Carrot, which is why goal still works on that unit.

  • On the 935 I have three options, KOM, PR & the person I follow who is next in front of me. There is no option for auto select.

On the 530, I have five to choose from and auto select.

But in checking the options, I noticed that regardless of which goal I choose, the one on top comes up.

Even if the blue line is in front of my desired goal, or if I choose my goal and get a notice of that, the 530 still shows whichever goal is on the top of the list.

I'll try some things tomorrow on my ride to see if I can change anything.

This is obviously a Garmin SW problem.

  • I'm not saying it not a Garmin issue.

What I am saying is that Garmin relied on the data being in a given order and that order changes on units that use the enhanced leaderboard entries. For units that use the abbreviated leaderboard entries this is not an issue.

In addition there maybe other issues associated with manually selecting an entry from the leaderboard.

  • So then Garmin should just use what is used on the FR935 etc. until this issue is solved.

Also, Live Segments should pop up while ClimbPro is active (not requiring a route to be loaded through Strava Routes, I have dozens saved in Garmin Connect).

Live Segments are a disaster on the 530.

  • Today I did not have any random goals across a dozen or so segments. Only one came up with a name, but that person has the same time as my PR. I did not sync my 530 between the time that I reset the goals and used the 530.

The blue line remains beside the goal, but that goal does not move to the top of the list.

  • Selecting an entry in the leaderboard  table will not move it up the list, but it should default to that entry when you start the segment.

  •  I checked and all of the segments that I crossed today (except one as explained earlier) came up correct. The blue line marked my desired goal (which came up). On the one segment that didn't come up correctly, the blue line moved to the "person in front of me" (actually, tied with me). That goal was at the top.

It seems that syncing the 530 leads to changes in the goal that comes up.

Another quirk, I've noticed that the "distance to start" is always less on my 530 than 935. Also, frequently the time ahead, behind etc. is different on each device, but the 530 corrects itself, and is off by quite a bit. The 935 never has to correct itself.

  • To quote Shakespeare who said of the new garmin, "like unto a bellows the 530 doth both suck and blow"

There are so many useless tidbits of information given that useful info gets buried.

Climb info is often info about a climb I may be on but I may be interested in a very different segment within the climb, so any data from garmin is useless.

Same with segments. Why oh why tie these to the phone? As soon as cell signal goes which is just about every 15m, the segment data goes. So even if segment info comes up, it is often not the segment I am interested in (even tho it should surely only show starred segments in the first place?) The 520 would at least show me the KOM (or nearest rival) and how far i was ahead/behind. Now, if it is there at all, it is useless because it never lasts all the way to the end.

ANd another thing!!!! Sorry, got me going now:-) Some data screens cannot be deleted. I can live with that because they can be hidden. Alas! There are those that can neither be deleted nor hidden.

All in all, the new things that were the big selling points for the 530 have left me wishing for simpler bygone days. The 520 recorded every ride for two years perfectly. Pretty much the same with the 510. The 530 at a month or so old has already mangled one ride (and nearly lost another) because it was so busy trying to update itself instead of just doing what it was intended to, record my place in space-time when i push the go button.

  • I feel your pain....for now, I am forced to ignore starred segments (where they were pretty useful on the 520). The only real solution I have found is to stick electrical tape on my top tube with the segment data on. I put time, distance, speed, VAM, goal power, a few encouraging words, etc... Hopefully i remember to hit the lap button when the segment kicks off (using ride with gps or whatever to try to identify the start/end) but really Garmin - this is what we spend hundreds of euros/$$/pounds on, having a device to do that for us, no?

  • Garmin cares very little to convert one of the main features for many people into something frustrating, illogical and  unusable in a rational and coherent way. It is a brand specialized in things like this .....
