Strava Live Segment goal settings randomly revert to Auto Select. Very frustrating, please provide a global setting!

I have figured out how to change the goal in my Strava Live Segments by going into each segment and manually selecting "PR" as my goal.

I am not, and never will be interested in beating the person I follow who is in front of me, and even worse, I don't care about my most "Recent Best".

There are one or two that I am targeting the KOM,

Yesterday, on several segments that I had previously set my goal a "PR", the screen came up with either a persons name or "Recent Best".

There should be a default setting which allows the user to choose which goal should come up. Them, the user could go into an individual segment to change the goal if he/she wants to.

And this setting should stick, not randomly change to another goal.

Why does the 530 randomly change the goal, even after I set it?

Also, to stop a current segment (sometimes I like to do this if there is a second segment that starts after the one that I am on) requires six button pushes. On my 820 I only had to push two.

Garmin, please fix these annoying issues!

Otherwise, the 530 is great!

  • It sounds like the Edge is configured to use segment auto-selection.

    Check the setting.

Training -> Strava Live Segments -> Segment Options -> Auto Select Effort (Switch this off)

  • It is not, it's set to off. This only changes on some segments not others.

And the "stop current segment" needs to be easier.

    Thanks

  • If it only some segment then those few segments might have gotten toggled to use that option some how.

Could you post the Garmin\Segment_List\Segment_List.fit file?

  • I will once I can get to my 530.

But there should be a way to set whatever goal a user wants as a default to all of their segments. There should also be a one-step process to stop a segment during a ride.

  • Currently the only global setting is the auto-select configuration. You do have individual control on each segment.

I agree it would be good to have an option to set your PR as globally as your target.

  • So difficult is to implement an option to compete in strava against the best time of myself. Always, always against my best time. Please, Garmin, do something simple and quick.

  • Also, I don't want the "PR, KOM, Recent Best, etc. finished" banner to flash across the screen. This obscures the data fields that are on the bottom.

  • +1. In all user interfaces less intrusive flags and banners are well accepted......

  • Update to this irritating problem:

I manually set every segment to my desired goal (either PR or KOM) two days ago. Auto Select is off.

On today's ride, 2/3 of the "Live Segments" had a different goal, most had "Recent Best".

This never happened with my 820, and it doesn't happen with my FR935.

I can't understand why this is even an issue. There should be a global setting for a default goal, and then the option to change individual goals.

The "Recent Best" may be the most annoying. I do a ride once a week with five hill segments. I usually target one or two each week, so my "Recent Best" may be a time when I was taking it easy. Then, when I decide to go for one, instead of my PR (which I chose), my Recent Best comes up, which is irrelevant and doesn't provide me with a real goal.

I have the updated firmware and have manually selected PR on all of my segments.

    Why can't this be fixed?

  • I'm seeing the exact same problem on my 830
