Cycling dynamics not recorded on ANT+

I did a ride this morning and noticed that cycling dynamics were not recorded. The only differences to a previous ride (where they did record) were:

  1. I was using a different profile with the cycling dynamics page hidden. I wouldn't expect this to prevent it being recorded though.
  2. I was using 3.41 rather than 3.33

I know that they are not recorded on Bluetooth so I went back to my bike to check the connection type - it was ANT+. Furthermore, I don't have the pedals in GCM due to previous bluetooth issues.

Is there something in the .fit file that could give me a clue to what is going on?

  • Tested this on my 935 which also showed no Cycling Dynamics. Looked back at the earlier ride and noticed they stopped recording part way through, despite power registering okay. It this indicative of a hardware fault in the Vector 3 pedals?

Feel free to move this to Vector 3 forum.

  • Could you post the FIT file?

Did the power drop to halve value? It could be the right pedal dropped out as you also stopped getting balance data.

  • The power data did not half. I had a spike of 9386W shortly after the cycling dynamics data stopped though.

I looked at the Vector setting this morning and, for some reason, they had become unpaired. No idea why. I repaired them but it immediately says Right Pedal Missing. Also it was showing a scaling factor of 2 for the right pedal. I would understand if the left pedal had a factor of 2 as this could be the fall-back operation when the right is missing

Batteries are less than a month old.

At this point I don't know if it's an issue with the pedals or the Edge 530 corrupting the pedal settings.

  • I think it is the pedals not the Edge.

I'm seeing quite a few resets in the data.

Do you know what generation of battery doors you have?

The latest Mark III doors have gold plating on the battery door connector points.

Check the battery door contacts and the contact points on the PCB are clean. They should not have black residue on them.

  • Thanks. I think I have the Mark II doors. I don't recall seeing any residue on the contacts but I'll check when I get home. I use mineral oil on them to prevent fretting.

Any idea why they unpaired and what's going on with the Scale Factor? And how can they pair then the right pedal is immediately missing?

It may be coincidental but I've only started having problems with them since getting the Edge 530. Prior to that, since getting the revised battery door, I've been using them for about a year without any obvious issues.

  • I would reach out to Garmin support and ask about getting the Mark III doors, they also come with a modified PCB.

I will take another look at your data.

  • Hi Alan

Bought my V3 last year, they can with the revised doors.  The MK3 you mention, are they different again? Any diagrams/pictures to what they look like in comparison to the others?

  • They are different. You likely have the Mark II doors and PCB.

Below the Mark II is on the left the Mark III is on the right. The most noticeable difference is that the contact points are gold

  • Yep, mine are the MkII! Where do I get these new doors from? You mentioned contacting Garmin, how does one go about contacting them for this?  I'm guessing a lot of the issues I'm having may be linked too!

Couldn't find any reference to a release of these doors, was it done one the quiet?
