Trailforks Fail

I preloaded Trailforks with trails the previous night.  Upon arriving to the trailhead I turn on the unit and try to get it to work via Connect IQ and here's the fail

- garmin was asking to connect to the phone. wouldnt connect

- we had no cell phone signal.  why would Garmin insist on having some sort of internet connection to talk with Trailforks?

- the trails I downloaded on the garmin unit was all gone.  Why couldnt I access the trails I preloaded?

- couldnt use trailforks at all

- no climb pro at all

- then on top of that, Garmin 530 just stops recording midway.  so I lost a good chunk of the ride

This unit sucks and I miss Wahoo Bolt (which I still own).  For future rides, Im probably gonna mount both computers.

  • Same issue - wanted to connect to the mothership but the mother ship wasn't in cell coverage.  Next to useless if this was the intention for how it would be used.

  • Yes, I have to agree!

    Only features that work Garmin!

    So, how is it today?

I'd like ti see the bold line of sone track from TrailForks with OSM map on 530 display. Possible?

    Coyld anyone tell me please:

disabling Trailforks map in menu of 530 - disables the list of trails?

I mean, can 530 shows custom loaded OSM map and some trail from Trailfirks trail database?

  • My understanding is that the Trailforks app is just an overlay.
With it enabled, it shows trailfork trails over the underlying base map, be it Garmin's map or OSM.

Below is the Openfiets map I have on my device with the Trailforks overlay, with a blue trail showing Pat's Track Signal Hill being one of the Trailfork trails.

    thank you!

So, if you disable Trailfork Map in settings - all those trails (lines of trails on your OSM map) will disappear, right?

  • Yes. So, in the above image the blue trails will go away, but my OSM has the trails too, just as finer dotted lines and without any names.

I find the Open Fiets Maps to be very up to date for even the more remote locations like in Namibia.
The Open Fiets map already shows updated street names that were changed just a few months ago... name changes that haven't even made it to Google or Apple Maps yet!

  • I just figured out the issue of needing a phone to activate a Trailforks route. First. On the edge go to connect IQ -> trailfroks -> My routs - >download route...... then when you are ready to ride  the route can be found by going to....  navigation - courses - Select the course you just uploaded.
