Default Mountainbike profile map

Why is the default Mountainbike profile map different from the Road profile map?

it has muted grey/beige colors for Woods, etc  when the road map is nice and colorful?

both have all the different maps that come with the unit enabled.

Can it be changed?

I think this is to make trails easier to read in the woods when things get crowded.  I noticed that when trailforks trails are present, *only* the trailforks data in that area renders until you zoom out.  (To stop things from getting crowded when you have multiple trails, along with the Openstreetmap trail data, hiking trails, streets, etc).

Also, if you use the Roadbike profile, everything gets rendered when trailforks data is present.

  • Hmm okej, has this been the case on older models like the 520PLUS?

  • I don't think so. I have the Edge 530 and I have the same issue. Road profile is clear, colorful. But MTB profile is grey...

    Anyone with solution?

  • Under activity profile, navigation settings, under Map, you have "Map Visibility" settings. Map visibility mode is set to Auto by default, it may be that default settings are different for each profile. You can choose Custom settings, where you can define yourself what details you want to see on map. Not sure if this would help here, but worth checking it out.

  • There are some issues with this feature. I noticed same difference in Map appearance between Mountain and Road and decided to use Road.

Let me call map color schemes "Pale" and "Normal" - should be obvious.

After few days, by some reason, Map appearance on my Road profile has changed to "Pale", and I have no idea why it happen.

I have switched profiles back and fourth, rebooted device - nothing helped, map in Road was still "Pale" as in "Mountain".

Then I started experiments and have created new profile via "Create from template" option using "Road" template -  "Road 2" profile was created, map style for it was "Pale".

Then I created new profile using "Copy from existing" option, using my "Road" profile - "Road 3" profile was created, with map stype... "Normal" !!

After that I have checked - "Road 2" appears as "Normal" as well.

"Road" still appears as "Pale" !

What it is ? A bug? Behaviour is completely unpredictable.

And BTW, it has no sense to me at all to turn courses colors to "Pale" colors as well on "Pale" map. They cannot be seen !!!

It would make much more sense to turn map colors to "Pale" and keep tracks in "bold" colors.

PS I played a lot with map settings and neither "Map visibility" nor other settings can change this behaviour, it is something completely different.

  • Ok, found the answer here

Not clear though why Mountain theme gets activated for Road profiles...

  • Hi guys!
Finally I found it by myself. It is very simple.
    Go to:

Menu > Settings > Activity Profiles, select a profile, and select Navigation > Routing -> Routing Mode.

There you have to change it from "Mountain bike" to "cycling on unpaved roads".
    THAT IS ALL!
Now the map looks like on my road cycling profile.
Let me know if it helps on your devices also!
