Mac not recognising 520+, USB, Mac

Hi,

I have an Edge520+ and a Mac.

Very occasionally, the mac will recognise the 520+ when I plug in a USB cable, but most of the time it won't. The device charges fine - but the OS doesn't recognise it.

I've tried multiple cables, multiple USB ports, turning everything off and on again, standing on one leg and whistling, turn around 3 times counter-clockwise - all the usual stuff.

All the cables & ports work with other devices, which leads me to believe that there's a problem with the 520.

I tried Garmin support, but they were no help whatsoever.

Does anyone have any idea as to how to make this thing work? Or should I just send it back and get a Wahoo instead?

What happend if you start Garmin Express without plugin-in the device?

Do you get an info lika "communication error"?

As I mention above, I've tried multiple cables - all to no avail.

I don't get any error messages at all - it either connects or it doesn't.

I'm becoming convinced that it's an issue with the USB implementation on the Garmin device.

I've found the solution to my problem with the Garmin 820 and I'm guessing it's the same issue. It has to do with allowing Full Disk Access to the Garmin Express App. Go into your System Preferences on your Mac and under "Security & Privacy", then "Privacy". Find Full Disk Access and hit the +. It'll bring up your finder. Go into your Applications file and select Garmin Express.

You still having the issue? I too have the new MacBook Pro with the M1 and can not discover the Garmin 520 Plus. It does discover the Varia RTL510 just fine.

I have had this issue for some months and after repeated attempts gave up trying. If Garmin do respond with a solution please post their answer here.

I've been having the issue since I bought the device. Garmin have been no help whatsoever.

My next head unit won't be a Garmin.
